Magellan and 505

I received my Magellan GPS for my 505 on the way to lunch and proceeded to connect it to the 505 before reading the instructions. I was amazed to have the 505 start squawking it's head off. I quickly removed the GPS and turned off the 505.

The fix was fairly simple, install the Magellan program to the Palm desktop, do a hard reset and hotsync, and world order returned.

Unfortuneatly I recently did a hard reset to clear out a conflict, and after hotsyncing proceeded to use the GPS, not knowing that the Magellan program had not installed. Once again the feverish squaking, but after a reinstall and hard reset, the darn thing continues to squawk and worse, the datebook pops up printing something like an endless equation. Further, when I go to menu a strip clock comes up--and I have never down loaded this strip clock.

Do I have a static problem requiring a battery diconnect?

I have never had anything like that happen to my Magellan - M515 combination, so anything I say here will be highly speculative. However, I did run into one situation where the presence of MMC card in the slot caused the program to freeze. If by any chance you have a card installed try removing it.

Also, do I understand you correctly? Does the the M505 squawks even if the Magellan sled is not connected to the Palm, or must the sled be connected?

No, just the dummy SD, and yes it only squawks when connected to the Magellan GPS or the either the Delorme Earthmate or Tripmate with or without correct settings. Ergo, I am inclined to think it is the 505. Bye the way, I hotsync with a cable as my 505 is Refurb from Palm and came with a serial cradle.
