I am looking into buying my First PDA for work use and was wondering if someone could answer some question for me.

The software that I will be using required PalmOS. However the PDA that I am currently looking at buying has PocketPC 2002. Will the software still run on the PDA.

The PDA that I am looking at is the new Dell AXIM X5

Dell AXIM (http://www.dell.com/us/en/gen/topics/segtopic_axim.htm)

The Software that I am needing is ToolBox PDA

ToolBox PDA (http://www.machinist-toolbox.com/MTBpda.htm)

Any advice would be great. Oooh and Price around $150-$250

Don't think windows does any palm software. There are some emulators around but have no idea if they would run your program till you tried most likely.

Dell unit is a real looker :-) wouldn't mind having one, but wife would shoot me for sure.

Perhaps you can find equivalent software written for Pocket PC operating system. Try searching PocketPC City and other web locations for options. AvantGo specifically creates connectivity between handhelds and PCs, so they might have an option available (probably not free).

Since the software you need is a job-specific calculator, it should be possible to create your own version in Pocket Excel or Pocket Access for the Axim, if you are comfortable working in these programs and know where to find all the equations and conversions needed.

On the other hand, since you will be carrying this thing onto the dirty shop floor, let your work budget get you something you don't care as much about (in case it gets trashed out there) and save your own money to buy what you want to use off the shop floor.
