I am totally disappointed with Mapsource v6. I used the v5 maps on a trip two weeks ago and when it couldn't find several new streets desided to upgrade to v6 (BIG MISTAKE so far!)

After unloading all the v5 maps and loading all the v6 maps and installing all the upgrades, patches for both the Garmin and Mapsource, plus following all the suggestions for setting preferences, etc I am still left clueless on how to fix the problem. I even tried reloading the maps to a new memory card and hard resets to the Garmin.

The problem remains, my unit will not route properly! It seems to go from major point to major point without following the streets!

Garmin could offer no suggestions today when I called!

This looks very much like what happens when you try to view a route that you created with v5 maps when v6 maps are loaded. There is no "fix" for this, you can only recreate the routes using v6.

If you are showing a route that you created with the v6 maps loaded, then that really is a puzzle. Nobody else seems to have had that problem including me.

Is it possible that you have the "Route Preference" set to "Off Road"? This would cause straight lines to be drawn from point to point rather than routing on roads.

I was exeriencing strange routes after switching to CS6. I checked the preferences and noticed that "truck" was selected which changed the way the route was calculated between CS5 and CS6.

Just a thought . . .

Q-eye,

It looks like you may have nailed the problem, I am trying to use v5 saved routes and addresses on v6 maps. Again what a terrible way to update if all the saved routes & addresses have to be redone.

I did try redoing one route and it came up on the streets like it should, but the original saved address is not in the right place.

What a mess!

That part of the upgrade is indeed unfortunate. My guess is that the routes are saved as a collection of "points" and when the maps change, so does the validity of the "points". So it seems to drop most of the intermediate points (along the roads) and you end up with much farther spaced points with straight-line "routes" from one to the next.

Has anyone tried activating one of the routes saved using v5 and then recalculating with the new v6 maps loaded?

I suggested that, but it was reported back that it didn't work.

Wasn't that what we allways wanted: straight line navigation with via's? :)

You're right. Garmin didn't want to implement that for marine navigation. Maybe there is a solution lurking here :)

John VA should look at it from the positive side. But I guess City Select 5 isn't good for marine chart work.

Maybe this: Determine waypoints in Bluechart. Calculate route in CS 5 using these waypoints as vias. Activate route in Bluechart.
