Does anyone have any experience with OTERM? I think it is the solution that I've been searching for, allowing me to move files to machines without installing PSIWin...but it's not working for me.

Whenever I run it, I receive a "Program Closed" alert, stating Program OPL, Reason code: Opl IO system, Reason number: 2. I have tried to contact the developer with no response.

Does anyone have any experience with OTERM? No, where did you get it? I've had a look at "Hermes" and "flyTerm" but neither of these Comms programs support file transfer. I would like to have a look at OTERM.

I found it at http://www.symbcity.com/new/public/dd/index.php3?ParentId=25

Seems like just the ticket...that is if I could get it to work.

OK, I've retrieved a copy and will have a look at it, though it might be just too basic.

X-modem protocol is not very clever for transferring files unless they are zipped or encoded with something like UUencoding. They then have to be unzipped or decoded at the other end.

The reason for this is that X-modem protocol pads files with additional characters (the Tab character I think) to make the file size an exact multiple of something like 256 bytes. The result is a corrupt file if sent normally, although it can still be extracted intact from a zip archive. Y-modem protocol doesn't suffer from this problem and is very much better for transferring non-zipped files.

I have given "Oterm" a try and, while it didn't actually crash as it did with you, it didn't transfer a file either. Hyperterminal on the PC brought up a dialog box to receive a file and showed that it expected a file from "Oterm", but nothing further happened.

If you are looking for an alternative to PsiWin, then this certainly isn't it :)

It appears that you are correct..perhaps I'll bone up on my OPL and see if OTerm is a good start...fortunately the developer provided the source....
