WIFI questions with AIM

Hey. I have AIM for my pocket PC (dell axium) when i have it syncd on the cradel it connects to AIM just fine, or the internet. Now around campus we have hot spots all areound so i get on the internet, as far as websites, but AIM will never work. What could the problem be, how do i check the settings. I have the aim for pocket pc 2002 i think. Its the one u dont have to buy. Like i said it works when I sync it but not over wireless. Im willing to buy it if that would solve the problem but i dont want to.

some sites on their wireless routers wil block AIM from happening as it can cause quite a lot of traffic, I have all instant messaging via wireless blocked in my routers.
