Hi guys.

Help!

My 5mx failed the other week after 18 months without a flaw. I opened it (to power up) and the screen just showed some lines near the top. Other attempts to get it to work just gave variants of a useless screen.

I tried changing the batteries and the backup cell then a soft reset and even (in desperation) a hard reset. Nothing helps.

I gather that the 5mx is prone to a connector failure problem.

Is there a solution? Or rather one that doesn't involves the UK £90 standard repair fee at the Psion approved repairers?

Thanks in advance.

John

I'm afraid your 5mx screen cable has cracked. This is the connector problem you mentioned. If you are skilled with a soldering iron (and i do mean skilled), replacement cables are available (see my FAQ, URL below), else repair services are offered by both Psion and POS Ltd, once again detais in my FAQ.

Sorry its not good news :( If you have a backup on a PC, then there is an 5mx emulator you can install which will give you access to your data. For instructions, you guessed it, check my FAQ ;)

Thanks.

I guessed it was bad news. Luckily I am good with a soldering iron so the links should prove useful.
