Is this a feature I haven't discovered yet, because if not, they seriously need to make it one.
Tonight there was a jack knifed tractor trailer at exit 10. I was down at exit 5. I got off at exit 9 after sitting for 90 minutes to go 5 miles, and had the iQue route me avoiding highways.
BUT, the route I was on, even though not a "highway" was bumper to bumper.
Is there anyway to tell the iQue. Route me on ANYTHING BUT Route 6.
Took me 3 hours to get home tonight, normally takes me 25 minutes.

You could have used the detour function.

Detours work well if you can see the problem in advance and have an exit point ahead to get you off. Most of the time I want to use detour it's too late anyway as I'm often stuck in the very problem I want to get away from - especially true of the M25 orbital in the UK.

Since the orbital is just that, you could always stay on it and experience the same thrill a couple of hours later. Again.

A couple of hours? Anders, you have a lot to learn about the M25!

I tend to get GPS features mixed up from model to model as I own several but, I don't believe the IQue has an "avoid" feature. I do know the SP 26xx models DO and it certainly does help. So, Garmin has this feature operational and could/should be adding it to other models. It works in both a normal routing request (Avoid a particular stretch of a highway or larger geographic area) and when using the detour function. In the detrour mode using Avoid is sometimes the only way I have been able to keep the gps from trying to route me back on the blocked highway too soon.

I did not realize about the Detour function.
Actually last night just before I got home, I accidentally clicked it, and was like, hmmm, I wonder how that works.
Ok, I'll definitely try that again.
I'm sure there will be another accident that closes up the highway before the end of the week.
I'm trying to find out also how to petition our DOT to install traffic cams in this part of the state.
They have webcams for I-91, I-95, but nothing for I-84 in the Danbury area.

OK, for us the un-initiated and on the fringe of know-how: how DOES the Detour function work?

If you are following a route, the routing page will contain a "detour" button. Tapping that will give you a menu of distances. When you select one, Betty recalculates the route to get you OFF of your current road and take alternate roads for the distance you selected. This is why you need to activate the detour BEFORE you exit from the clogged roadway.

Also you could try to route by "Shortest Distance" instead of fastest. Alot of times it would take you to the local streets. That's if you already got off the exit and detour would not be effective then.
