After installing some photos on my Tungsten with the PhotoBase application included on the CD, I copied one over to my 64MB SanDisk SD card to see if the load time was significantly different. The photos load almost immediately from the internal memory, but take 8 secs. to load from the card. And it takes 2:55 to copy each one from the internal memory to the card.

Is this normal?

I've been hearing bad things about SanDisk 256MB cards, but is there also a problem with the SanDisk 64MB card, or are these sorts of times comparable to other brands? Does anyone have any first hand experience with this?

I feel that you are experienceing an unusually long time for both your image files to transfer to and your image files to open for viewing from your SD card. I have no first hand experience with PhotoBase, but I can confirm that SplashPhoto 3.51 on my Tungsten transfers and opens image files immediately. Most of my files range from 30-55K and are jpg. I am using a Viking Components 64MB SD card.

Hope this info helps.

Thanks for your response, Old Blue. I guess I'll have to shell out for another brand of SD card to determine if this one's got a problem. But it sounds like it's likely. Sigh.

I'm not so sure SanDisk is at fault. I have SanDisk SmartMedia cards for my digital camera and they work fine. Have you tried using SplashPhoto 3.5.1 seeing how long it takes for images to show on your Palm's screen? The decrease in speed that you are currently experiencing could be a function of the application. ... Just a thought.
