Hello all, need a little help.

I have read over the forums concerning loading maps and basemaps. This seems a little different situation and need some help.

I have my 3rd RMA ique. The battery seems to be working well now. Also have hotsync loaded, initial garmin CD, and can transfer. All seems fine, but........

1) installed city select v5
2) upgraded to city select v6

then the problems started.

It looked like I had two basemaps. All roads were duplicated.

So I read the forums. And in the que I deleted all maps and basemaps from memory and the card. I even deleted the garmin log. see forum excerpt below:

"
from maxb
- Base map (GMAPBMAP.IMG) on internal memory
- Detailed map (GMAPSUPP.IMG) under the Garmin folder on Card.
- Delete GRMN_LOG file (i.e. the index file?) from internal memory"

Now I create new maps in Palm desktop or maprsource. Tried both. syncd the GMAPSUPP.IMG file to the ique no problem.

But the basemap never shows up and no GMAPBMAP.IMG file is never created. I did a search on my pc and nothing. I check the ique and sure enough the basemap does not appear but the roads do.

So I went to mapsource and chose v6 and could not find a way to just create a basemap. Went to the V6 cds and could not find the basemap on the cds.

I am probably missing something easy, but I hope it would not be this diffucult to get the ique up and running in a weekend.

Thanks for your help in advance and hope others can learn from this. ( oh, even though i am frustrated right now, I REALLY like my ique!!!!!! )

After I posted the previous information, I went to garmin's website and downloaded the updates to mapsource 6.3 and the iQue 3600 - Americas Standard Basemap Ver. 3.01 as of April 7, 2004.

I installed the 6.3 basemap and the Americas Standard Basemap.

Syncd and the roads again are duplicated. MMMMmmmmmmm....

any suggestions??

Thanks in advance.

Not quite sure I understand what you mean by roads are duplicated. You install the basemap from the original setup CD or, if you have the latest basemaps, from that binary file. Perhaps I'm a bit dense, but can you explain a bit more about the duplicate roads?

Sam

edit: If you are installing the basemap to the Que, you can only get the lite version. The full americas basemap must go on the card.

garland and grace, there is only one road.

Grace has three culdasacks, not 6.

Just a wild guess here, but it almost sounds as though two versions of CitySelect are overlayed, one with updated locations or something.

Are you sure that you don't have both v5 and v6 maps active? I don't even know if that's possible, just something that came to mind.

First, the basemap and detailed maps aren't set up for hotsync in the same way.

Second, there's no 6.3 basemap. The only 6.3 update is an update to the map handling program Mapsource. But that program can handle detailed maps only, not your basemap.

What you see as duplicates on your screenshots is not a basemap and a detailed maps. It's true that it looks like two different detailed maps. Open GPS - Preferences (by tapping on the menu icon from the Map application, for example) - Maps - Detailed maps. Now tap on menu again (or the title bar) and make sure you select Enable City Select 6. This will automatically disable all other map types.
You can also see if you have a reference to the CS 5 maps there as well.

If you do have these maps doubled, then open Mapsource again and make sure you don't have any maps at all selected when you start picking from CS 6. Click on the Maps tab and make sure the list is empty before you start. This should guarantee that you don't get any other maps than those you really want to have.

It looks like you have two sets of detailed maps. Just wondering, but when you installed V6 and built the V6 mapset and installed it, did the size of the map file on the Q double from what you had using V5?

If you used mapsource and started with an existing file that had all the V5 maps selected, then switched to V6 and re-selected the maps, mapsource will build the map file from both versions, I think. I've never done this with V5 and V6, but have built maps with tides, R&R and V6 so I know (well, think) it is possible. Could also happen if you have an old Garmin GPS that used MetroGuide, if you had some of those selected when you built the mapset it could duplicate the maps, overlaying one on the other.

Recommend you delete the detailed maps from internal memory and the card. In mapsource, select New to start fresh. Make sure V6 maps are showing in the pull-down menu. Select the maps you want and rebuild and install -- make sure nothing in the other maps is selected. I'll bet the double streets go away.

Good luck.

Mike

I checked, V5 maps were loaded not 6.

So I created the maps in mapsource again, making sure that no initial maps were selected. V6 maps and loaded per your instructions, and also went into the IQUE "detail map" section and make sure only one map was showing as you directed.

YES IT WORKED!!!!!!

Many Thanks!!!!!!
