Like many ex Psion users, I was drawn to the P800 because of its underlying Symbian operating system. My first impressions were disappointing - I was expecting a something like a Psion, with a phone built in. Since my unfortunate Netbook DIY disaster, I have started missing EPOC and have taken up the P800 with new enthusiam.

I am now running trial versions of Agendus and Quickoffice, as well as Sman and Mobipocket, and the P800 is now much more inviting.
Which other applications can be added to give the P800 / P900 a more Psion like feel ?

Cheers,
Andy

Hi Andy

I can totally identify with what you are saying - it's taken me quite a long time to make friends with my P800, but I'm getting there. So much so, that I'm almost certainly going to go up to a P910 quite soon.

I think the problem for Psion users is that the device doesn't arrive with all the inbuilt apps we are used to, not to mention the lack of keyboard, so it just isn't ready to do everything straight out of the box.

However, I do think it has great potential for any user prepared to put in a bit of effort and research into what software is right for his or her needs. In my case, something that has made a difference is the installation of eZiTap predictive text software, since I was really finding text entry tedious.

It was a while before I got the P800 set up for e-mail, but now that I have, I find it very convenient - certainly for a quick check for incoming mail, even if I don't always use it for sending.

Another app I rather like is World Mate - world time, weather, currency conversions, flight times, etc. Everything that is variable from day to day can be updated by a quick GPRS connection. Not something that everyone will need, but brilliant for those who do.

Perhaps others would like to post here on what apps they are finding useful on their UIQ devices?

Andy, I've sent you a PM on this topic also.

Julie,
Thanks for the info on eZiTap and World mate. I've installed them and I'm trying them now.

My first impression of eZitap is that it takes up too much of the screen to be useful. I don't use my P800 to enter large volumes of text, so I can usually manage with Jot. I can see how it would save a lot of time on long documents, once the dictionary had learnt your commonly used words, so for many users it could be invaluable.

I really like Worldmate pro . Although I am far from being an international jet setter, it is fascinating to get instant world weather forecasts automatically downloaded via GPRS ! The currency converter will certainly get used when buying on the net.
I don't do enough travelling to justify buying this program, but I probably will anyway. Its the sort of program that you hope will come in useful.

Thanks again Julie,

Andy
