Hi all,
Finally I bought the phone that can communicate with my MC218.
GPRS is working (with O2 in the Netherlands), but when I try to make a connection (internet) from the MC218 I receive the message "Problem opening page http://xxxxx Already Exists"
and then nothing happens.

It doesn't matter if I choose another phone, the message keeps coming (Already exists). It has got something to do with the Internet connection setting, but I cannot find out what it is.
Who can tell me if the settings are OK and which needs to be changed ?

The "Already exists" error message has almost certainly been caused by a failed connection which hasn't closed down properly. A soft reset will clear this.
If, after a soft reset, the same thing happens - failed connection followed by "Already exists", I will let you have a note of any differences between my 6310i GPRS settings and yours, but I don't want to suggest changing them if you don't need to.
Hi,
I tried "Fn+Shift+Ctrl+K", but I am not sure if this does a soft-reboot.
It looked like it rebooted, but I am not sure.
After that the page still exists ....
What else can I try ?

Fn+Shift+Ctrl+K doesn't perform a soft reset on the machine - it only kills the application in the foreground.
For a full soft reset you need the famous unfurled paper clip inserted into the reset hole - it's inside the backup battery compartment, right next to the button cell. Close down any running apps before doing this. You should not lose any data.
As an alternative to this I can recommend a little freeware app that performs the same function:
http://www.mypsion.ru/ResetPlus.php
Once installed this resides in Control Panel and you can reset the machine with a few keystrokes or screentaps. It will also close down any running apps for you first, which is quite handy.

After the soft reset i receive the following error :
Program closed
progam : Etel;Server
Reason code : USER
Reason number : 23
and when I click ok, a message that the server has closed.
Any suggestions ?

Any suggestions ? What I would do in this situation is to close down any internet applications - Email, Web, The Dialer, Opera etc. and then rename the Commsdb.dat file to hide it from the operating system. Rename it to OldCommsdb.dat for example.
Now, if you open "Control Panel / Modems", a new Commsdb.dat file will be created and only the default settings from ROM will be present. I would suggest you set up a new configuration for the 6310 using these settings for a basic GSM connection only:
------------------
Name - Nokia 6310i
Speed - 115200
Connect - Infrared
Fax Class - Auto
------------------
Init (reset) - AT&F&K3
Data - (blank)
Fax - (blank)
------------------
Flow - Hardware (RTS/CTS)
Terminal (DSR/DTR) [ ] not checked
Carrier (DCD) [ ] not checked
Type - Mobile
------------------
In "Control Panel / Internet", enter your ISP settings and try to connect. Once you have this working reliably, you can then try setting up GPRS again.
If, after doing that, you find a basic GSM connection works but GPRS crashes (the Etel server closes), I would suspect there is a setting which is incorrect. I assume that you have installed the "Mobile GPRS Update"? If not, download it from the Series 5 page of my website and install it.
To try to find any faulty setting, create the file path C:\Logs\Etel\ and, after your next connection attempt, there should be a log file called GSMTSY.txt in the Etel folder which might show the problem - usually an ERROR response.
Hi,
After my message yesterday, I has been soft-resetting many times, and I tried another Modem config without the AT_CDGCONT=,,internet setting.
I changed a couple of things and tried, and after 15 minutes my phone started to DIAL, but didn't receive a connection, something to do with the user account.
But ... most important (and I dont understand it at all) was the fact that after the reset, the REMOTE LINK was "OFF", instead of 'infrared' and that was probably the cause of the problem, in combination with the settings in the modem.
(Access denied messages and so on)
Now it is working and I still need to configure some more for have the best speed ... it feels slow ....
But ... I cannot WAP yet ... and I do not understand why not ...
I cannot see http://wap.o2.nl in my MC218, but on my phone it works fine. Instead I see the sourcecode for this WML page.
Internetpages are no problem ... as far as there are no frames and other flash stuff.....
Does anybody know why I cannot WAP on my MC218 ?
And does anybody know how to improve the PING times with my phone ? (I tried my laptop with GPRS, and it works, but when I ping one of my machines that are connected by Cable, 2 of the 4 pings fail and the average respons times are about 800 ms)
Thanks for the help so far and waiting for more ...

After my message yesterday, I has been soft-resetting many times, and I tried another Modem config without the AT_CDGCONT=,,internet setting. I am not sure from your message if you are trying to get a basic GSM dialup connection to your ISP or if you are still trying to use GPRS.
I changed a couple of things and tried, and after 15 minutes my phone started to DIAL, but didn't receive a connection, something to do with the user account This sounds as if you are trying to use GPRS but the APN (Access Point Name) in the Psion doesn't match that in the phone, because you removed the "AT+CDGCONT...." string.
As I suggested in my previous message, I would try to get a reliable GSM dialup connection first and then set up GPRS.
But ... most important (and I dont understand it at all) was the fact that after the reset, the REMOTE LINK was "OFF", instead of 'infrared' and that was probably the cause of the problem When connecting to the internet by dialup or GPRS, the Link should always be "Off".
But ... I cannot WAP yet Sorry, I cannot help with WAP. I personally found WAP to be completely useless and almost incomprehensible to set up, though you may need to use a different APN in the GPRS settings to use WAP. Then it becomes more complicated.

Not really, no, except to say that when I was setting up my GPRS system I was informed that the WAP gateway is totally separate from the Mobile Internet gateway, and would require its own profile and settings (different APN, etc). I guess you may have addressed this already, though.
I was only interested in "full" Internet, so I didn't pursue it any further, I'm afraid.
Does anyone want to tell me what I'm missing by not using WAP, by the way?

I was informed that the WAP gateway is totally separate from the Mobile Internet gateway, and would require its own profile and settings (different APN, etc). Yes, a different APN is required, probably referring to 'wap' instead of 'internet' in the AT+CDGCONT string and then the number to dial has to be changed as well to specify the APN. Instead of using the default *99# dialer, it will have to be something like *99***1# or *99***2# depending on which APN is to be accessed.

Download the update from mikemcc's website:
http://home.clara.net/m-mcconnell/MobileGPRSUpdate.zip
After that, follow these steps but you will have to substitute the O2 IP and DNS settings which you obtain from O2 Netherlands!
These settings work on the O2 network in Ireland.
1. Connect your MC218 palmtop to the PC.
2. Right Click on the file "MobileGPRSUpdate.sis" and send it to the C drive of the MC218.
3. Turn off and disconnect the MC218.
4. Turn the MC218 on again.
5. Open the new MobileGPRSUpdate file on the MC218 desktop screen.
6. Perform a soft reset of the MC218 (Turn it over, open the smaller cover for the standby battery, and poke a paperclip into the small brass coloured hole beside the "Warranty void if removed" sticker)
7. Turn the MC218 on again.
8. Go to Control Panel
