I run windows 98 and have just recently purchased an Ibook as my mobile computer. I successfully tried to sync my 515 to my I book and then later attempted a sync to my PC. The problem is that now everytime I sync to my PC I get a "FATAL ALERT" Fatal exception message on the palm and it locks up until I do a soft reset. I have tried a hard reset of the palm to know avail I still get the message after a hard reset when attempting to sync to the PC. I think that I'd rather just sync to my PC if I can get the thing to work properly again. Does anyone have any suggestions??? I need to sort this out ASAP. Thanks for your help.

After a hard reset to the Palm you "should" have had no problem hotsyncing and reloading the data on the PC to the Palm. The fact that you did have the same problem suggests that you need to correct some damage done tot he PalmDeskTop/Conduit on the PC. I suggest you reinstall the DeskTop from the Palm Install CD.

The problem was that some new printer software corrupted a USB driver and this kept crashing the Palm515. I deleted the printer software, deleted the palm software and re-installed the palm software and now I can sync with the MAC or the PC with no problem. Thanks for your response.

aca544:

I'm glad you replied with the solution to your problem. So many times people try something that may not have been suggested in other posts which works but think nobody else is interested enough to know so never bother typing it up. (In a way there's nobody to reply to, I guess).

It's good to see how an issue is resolved because it get's you thinking outside the 'normal' way of doing things. Your problem could well happen to me, or other members of this board, in the future. At least if and/or when it happens I'll remember to check the avenue you did and get up and running again. Or, at the very least, exhaust that possibility!

It's all educational...:)
