Got some that came with the package deal from Buydig.com with the 515.
Used one and it left a residue on the screen that I cannot seem to remove.
Any idea's on how to clean the mess?
ps: I did get the Brando Workshop Protector from Hong Kong and it seems to work a lot better except for the mess on the screen from the Concepts screen thingy's.

Try a dry sheet of Swiffer. It is very absorbent and non-abrasive.

I often use alcohol to clean stuff, esp. adhesive goo, but it might cause problems here.

Call me crazy, but starting with my Palm V about 3 years ago, I've been using car polish and tape on my Palm screens. The polish removes dirt, water spots, and other "stuff", such as adhesive, from my screen. My screens remain unscratched and clean and the tape I place on the grafitti area protects it from getting scratched by the stylus.

Here's my weekly Friday afternoon routine prior to leaving the office:
I remove the old tape from my screen. (It's 3/4 inch wide, Scotch Type 811 removable tape... looks like Scotch Magic "frosty" tape, but has the same adhesive as Post-It notes.) I moisten the corner of a cotton terry towel with car polish and, with very light pressure, wipe down the entire screen. I buff the screen with a clean dry area of the terry towel. I then apply a strip of tape to the grafitti area and carefully trim the edges so they're flush with the edge of the screen. That's it! My Palm is good for another week. The sylus glides over the screen and the tape imparts a "paper" feel when writing with the stylus. After a week's usage, the tape surface starts to glaze, which is why I change it weekly.

Sounds better than the expensive little kit I bought. Has two little sheets, some clean wipes ($5.00). I'll try your "hints from Old Blue";)

I've been making my own screen rotectors ever since I boght my first Palm V. I make them by photocopying the hand held, cutting out the photocopied screen size. Trace this shape, with a little edge all the way round, onto a piece of trancparency - the ones used on overhead projectors. This is then cut out and fits snuggly, with a little patience under the screen rim. They last for about 6 months - and I am a power user! You can't even tell they are there, and they make the grafiti area more feel freindly when writing!
- honest

If you are going to make your own, try making them from inkjet window decals. They are very clear, and have a paper-like surface. They are very resistant to scratches. You can steam out (!) small scratches. They have a slightly tacky surface, so they stay very well without tucking under the frame - tucking can cause digitizer problems sometimes. They are much cheaper than premade screen protectors - $12 for five 8.5"x11", which makes dozens of screen protectors.

The disadvantage is that drops of water make white spots.

Did you try the car polish and Type 811 tape? I know you think I'm nuts, but I've got 3 years of experience showing that it works! (And it's extremely inexpensive. And it requires no cutting to size and is very easy to apply.)

OldBlue ... just following up :)

I am in CA also it must be the sun :D

No I have not tried it yet.
I do have a question on that car polish.
Being in the auto repair business I have always thought that most if not all car polishes contain very fine abrasive materials that are designed to remove pigmentation in aging auto finishes.
Is it possible that you mean car wax?
If that is the case it would place a film on the lens and I am wondering which wax that would be. Most of the auto wax is not all that clear.

I'm using a car polish (maybe I'm using the wrong terminology?) that a friend sells to me through her MLM business. It leaves a polymer coating that is slick and does not build up. I find that my stylus just glides over the screen surface effortlessly. The literature says that it has contains no abrasives, teflon, silicone, or wax. (That's why I didn't call it a car wax.) I've been using it on my car for 7 years and on my Palm screens for 3. I have seen no ill effects on either. ... I have also read on these boards about people using Rain-X on their screens and reporting similar results.

The Scotch Type 811 tape is what REALLY saved my graffiti area from scratches. My Palm V was starting to show heavy scratching until I read about the tape on one of these boards. I bought a couple of rolls at Staples (one to keep at home and one too keep in my office) and found that the strip on my Palm lasts about a week before needing to be replaced. A roll easily lasts over a year, so it's pretty cheap protection for the grafitti area.

BTW, are you in Northern or Southern California?

OK you win pal but just to make sure I get the right polymer could you give me a brand name on that.
Heading to Staples this AM to get the 811 tape

Hi, Irv

I use a car product called DriWash N Guard. It's sold only through MLM, kinda like Avon, Mary Kay, etc. (I hesitate in mentioning the actual name as I don't want to be accused of advertising.) It's been working really well for me and has kept my Palms' screens slick and clean. As I mentioned, I've read on the boards of people using RainX with good results, too.

The car wax, in conjuction with the 811 tape, has done a great job protecting my screens and grafitti areas. Let me repeat, it's just what has been working well for me. I know others will cringe upon reading this and others will swear by the stick-on, plastic film type of screen protector.

I made my own screen protector out of transparency...but the surface is really slippery, anyone know of any other better material? I like the thickness!

You can get really thin (4 mil) vinyl from a fabric store. It will be a lot less slippery.

If you want a paper-like feel, get inkjet window decals from Staples.
