No system sound on palm VX

I have a palm VX (used). everything works fine except no system sound. It would be helpful for alarms and hotsync progress. I checked peferences and all seem to be set properly. Any suggestions?

I would first see if there is a file called System_MIDI_Sounds.pdb, in the Palm\AS\Backup. If it isn't there, then it probably is not on your Palm. Typically it is installed during the initial setup, but at the moment can't advise you on how to get it from a Palm CD. Also check your Archive file incase it was accidentally deleted. Haven't heard of any other common issues relating to the system sound not functioning. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion, I DO have that file in my desktop backup file. I tried a hard reset, and still no sound. Any other ideas? Could it be a hardware problem?

The Palm Vx piezo electric speaker is a good one...nice and loud compared to the Palm III series. It can go bad. Not common.
Send and email to Chris Short at "ips@chartermi.net." Chris is an expert on the care and feeding (also repair) of Palm V/Vx units.
