Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Palm missing on XP upgrade
I recently upgraded from Windows 2000 to XP Pro and then upgraded Palm Desktop to ver. 4.1.4
After clicking the desktop icon, Palm desktop loads with me indicated as the logged user but nothing else.
When I use explore and go into c:\palm, everything is there in files and folders but it does not display on Destop.
Any help from anyone would be most appreciated. I purchased my m125 in SFO when living in the US, but am now back in my native Australia.

First, get rid of the version 4.1.4 desktop. It's meant for later Palms and is, by default, looking for the later PIM databases that don't exist on the M125. Download verison 4.01 at http://www.palmone.com/us/support/downloads/palmdt_4.html and use that version of the desktop.
You may also have files loaded in the wrong folders. Once you get 4.01 desktop set up, you can set the conduits for "handheld overwrites desktop" to restore your data to the Palm desktop. This will also put the files in the correct folder. You should be able to see the difference by checking the creation dates fo the files after you hotsync. As usual, backup everything in your user name folder before doing things like this.
Thank you Jim for your extremely prompt assistance.
I followed your suggestion and deleted Palm ver. 4.1.4. and then installed ver. 4.01. Installation complete, I ran the programme.
I then got 4 errors - each saying that a .DLL file failed to load. these were consecutively
MEMO20
TODO20
ADDR20
DATE20.
I was then given the final killer ........
"Error: Invalid configuration. Terminating Palm Desktop.”
And that, as they say was that. Any ideas, Jim?

The Palm desktop is not finding your four PIM database files. I have no idea where you loaded them but it doesn't matter if all the data is on your Palm. Set all your PIM conduits for "handheld overwrites desktop". Don't try to open the Palm desktop yet. Hotsync you Palm and then try opening the Palm desktop. The correct databases should be recreated in the correct location and the desktop should work.
This is exactly the same instructions I gave you in my previous post so please follow my instructions this time before you try to open the desktop.
