Hey folks. I'm selling my Rim Blackberry 957. It comes with everything, including origional box, and is in excellent condition. It's a Rogers AT&T edition, and is not tied to any service contract. This means, if you purchase it, you can get a monthly service plan from Rogers without locking in for a year or two!

For anyone who's close to buying a blackberry but isn't sure why:

a) Rogers network has a near instantaneous response time -- my desktop(s) and blackberry recieve email at the same time. In fact my blackberry notifies me before my desktop recieves email -- and i set my outlook to send/recieve every minute.

b) I use the Sparrow email program -- and integrate my Work, school, and other personal accounts to my Blackberry -- no one knows if i am really at my desk or at home <g>

c)AOL, ICQ, MSN Messenger through Webmessenger -- For canadians, it still works, and it's still free =)

d) Rogers will provide new Blackberry software in early 2003 which brings the 950/957 in line with the New blackberries -- Pop 3 email on your Blackberry, yes, any pop 3 account will operate with your 950/957 when Rim/Rogers release the new software for it..

I'm asking $350 Canadian, which is certainly a bargain. I'm in the waterloo area. Email me if you have any questions, or reply here.

You're nuts to ask $350. Rogers sells refurbished units for $199. You can buy a brand new device for $199 US (less than you are asking). No offense but it is really irritating to see you advertise on this borad, yet not understand what your device is worth on the market.

I don't know where to begin.

First of all, I said $350 Canadian. Canadian dollars are worth far less than their american counterparts.

Secondly, Rogers sells refurbished units (957) for $299 CDN, WITH a one year or two year contract.

Third, Brand new units that operate on the Rogers AT&T network cost $449 CDN With a one year or two year contract. Don't forget to add your Canadian taxes to that..

My Blackberry is in excellent shape, Is not bound by any contractual terms (you can go month to month) so $350 CDN is not 'nuts', in fact it's a fairly reasonable asking price. I also never said that the price is firm, hence, the person willing to give me the best offer gets it at that price..

We were both wrong.

Me wrong - US$199 was wrong. Sorry about that. I can't find a source to verify it. Thought I saw some sale a while back in the US. If you can buy one in the US it can be used in Canada to my understanding. The network is the same.

You wrong - $199 CDN for a refurb unit not $299. I stick to my original comment, although you are right about the contract, but why buy one if you aren't going to use it!

There's still a problem however:

That $199 price comes with a catch. First, you still pay $299. Rogers then applies a $100 credit to your service contract.

Secondly, if you cancel your contract early, Rogers not only takes away that $100, they also charge you $7.50 per month of the remainder of your service contract. That's up to $170 in penalties depending on where you cancel on that 2 year contract.

Hence, you end up paying a whole lot of money for your blackberry and service account.

Regarding Rogers -- You cannot purcahse a 957 from a different provider and plop it with a Rogers contract -- they won't let you. The units themselves say rogers on the back , and the pin numbers assigned are assigned to rogers. If you call them, they will say that this feat is not possible.

There are only two network providers in Canada, Rogers at&t and Bell. IMHO Rogers is the biggest network, and by far most popular. The same rules apply to both..

Of course , an 857 (Bell) is a completely different network , and most certainly doesn't apply.
