Hello everyone,
How can I send data files from Psion Series 3, to Nokia 6600 via infrared?
This is because I want to transfer "sis" files to 6600, but I don't have IrDA or bluetooth dongle. I successfully copied some files to Psion 3, make "send via infrared", Psion said "Found Another infrared machine" and nothing happens.

Must I have some conversion software installed in Psion Series 3 ?

The Series 3 infrared is non-standard and can only be used to send data to another Series 3. I think your only option is to buy an IR or bluetooth dongle or get the memory card and a card reader to transfer files from your PC.

Hi again Jim,

I am not very shure that my device is series 3.
I post output from Machine information:
Type: Osaris R1,
Software version 1.02(209)

Hardware
Processor: CL-PS7111
Speed 18.432MHz.

I reply to your post because I successfully send some viles from Nokia 6600 in ASCII mode using Comms package on Osaris side.
But with "sis" and "jar" files I don't have this luck.

You actually have an Orergon Scientific Osaris. This machine had the ER4 operatings system, a one-off OS between the Series 5, which had, ER3 and the 5mx, which had ER5. I'm not sure what the IR standards are for ER5. You can try donwloading and installing IRComm2k from http://www.ircomm2k.de/ , which enables the Psion to communicate with the later IR standards used in Win2k and WinXP. I have no idea if this porgram runs on ER4 or even if it will solve your problem.

I'm also moving this message to the Series 5mx/MC218 and Series 60 Smartphones sections since they are closer to correct than listing an ER4 machine under the Series 3.

I suspect that, for file transfer between your Osaris and the Nokia 6600, you may have to install support for IrOBEX infrared protocol in the Osaris, which by default uses IrCOMM.

There is a little "free" application actually intended for use with the C-Pen hand held scanner which implements IrOBEX for file transfer in a Revo or 5mx. I cannot say if it works in an ER4 Osaris, but give it a try: C-Beam for Psion (http://www.cpen.com/Download/extra_applications/m3/psion)

Hi

I only just spotted this thread, but if you're not having any luck it may be because the 6600 has both a 'modem' IR icon in the connect folder and a normal IR connection.

With my 7book, I seem to have similar problems with the IR connection with my 6600, as does someone else who PMed me who has a revo.

after many attempts, it now connects beautifully to the net, but normal IR has never really worked (although the IR connect works fine between the 6600 and other phones)

I'm wondering whether the presence of the modem icon as well as the normal IR could be what is stopping it from connecting via IR to send files, but not really knowing the Osaris too well it is probably that.

If you or anyone else has had any luck with connecting the 6600 to any psion via then let me know.

cheers

Cara
