I am looking for the easiest and cheapest way to try out viewing some of my images on my palm. Maybe pictures of the family to share with I am out. What software can I try for free to help me decide if it is worth it.
Thanks,
Finman:)

The easiest and least expensive way would be to install MGI PhotoSuite, which is included on the Bonus Software CD that came with your m505. You can also download SplashPhoto and give it a free try. It's shareware and you've got 30 days to evaluate it. You can find it at:
www.splashdata.com
If you've got a lot of photos that you want to show, you may want to get a memory card for storage, so that you don't use up all the RAM in your Palm.

Hey thanks, I found FireViewer program in freeware so I tried that. Works great. My question now is what type and how many megs SD card should I buy? Will a 128 work on a 505 with OS 4.0?
Thanks,

Yes, I would encourge you to get the largest SD card you can afford. Be sure to load this patch first if you go beyond 32MB. Good luck

Confirming OS Version 4.0. I could never get it to upgrade to 4.1 because according to palm it might be the international version and the 4.1 upgrade only works for US version????? Go Figure
Thanks,

I think the OS upgrade needs a lot of free ROM space, but the international OS leaves too little. You really have the international, multi-language version?
Since you have 4.0, you should put in the fatfs.prc patch so you can use >32MB SD cards.

JohnKes is correct re not being to upgrade the international version from OS 4.0 to OS 4.1. Here is the quote from Palm's website re the upgrade:
"Note: This version of the Palm OS® Software 4.1 Upgrade for the Palm™ m500 and m505 handhelds Update is intended for US English handhelds only. It is not compatible with Multi-Language versions of the Palm m500 and m505 handhelds.
Palm OS 4.1 Software Upgrade for the Palm m500 and m505 handhelds is not compatible with Windows XP and Mac OS X."

I have to disagree with some of the above as I WAS able to upgrade mi Palm m505 from Palm OS 4.0 to 4.1 - international version.
If I recall correctly I had already installed the FATFS.PRC patch -not sure on this one- but it seems to be unnecessary in OS 4.1. I have a 64MB MultiMedia card.
The Palm quote apparently saying otherwise may be related to the fact that the OS 4.1 upgrade probably needs to be localized. The International Palm Websites are a nightmare and I was unable to find the adequate language version so I "cheated" substituting the "eng" in http://palm-chil.www.conxion.com/Palmm505_eng4_1_FlashNew.sit for the corresponding code, i.e. "esp" for Spanish, "fra" for French, "deu" for German, etc. That should work.
Hope this helps.
