I can not get my e740 to connect (surf internet or get IP assigned by DHCP) to my WiFi network. I have a wireless notebook and wireless desktop that work fine on the WiFi network but not the e740. It detects and shows the correct WiFi network (showing signal strength/SSID) but will not connect or get a IP address from the DHCP on the WiFi access point. I have checked and verified the WEP key is correct and even turned WEP off on the AP and the e740 but still no go. I disabled DHCP and assigned IP & Subnet to e740 again no good.

Hi,
How do you connect your Laptop to the web?
If you use dialup connection under Win2000 or XP - you can share it to allow others to access internet.
In this case your WiFi adapter will get IP address 192.168.0.1
You have to configure WiFi IP address to get from server and after that you will be online.
If you use network connection (wired) on laptop and want PDA to access WEB via WiFi, you can't use internet sharing. In this case I use Proxy server (analogx).
You will need to run Proxy server on laptop (assuming it has connection to the web) and setup IP addresses on WiFi (laptop and PDA) on the same range. Do not forget to configure IE on PDA to use proxy from IP of your laptop.

It all works fine for me too. My home network is almost all wireless. to connect to the Internet or other shared drives on the network I must have the following set in the Connections Application: From Top to Bottom - Internet Settings(default values) - Internet Settings (default values) - Work (default values). I currently have WEP disabled. When at work I have to use a ethernet SD card (no wireless), and then set everything to 'Work'. When I move between work and home, I find a Soft reset is sometimes needed. Good Luck

I think sometimes if you are adding a new device to your network you have to reset the Access point or router.
You can do that by unpluging the DC power and plug it back again while you have your PDA ON with WI FI on as well.
I use a Linksys Router, and I had to do that at times when the Router does not recognize or allow the Toshiba to access the network.
Although I am runninn into a NEw problem now. It seems that one of my PCs is competing with the Toshiba, if I have both on ...only the Toshiba works. If I have it off, the PC works, but then the Toshiba wont work.... this is soooooo puzzling me.

I have the same bshlewiet problem.
I have a US Robotics 2450 Access point.
I think that it is a problem of the Access point firmware.
What do you think?
Hi guys,
I got the same problem, but for me, when i run the Toshiba e740, the access point died :_( ... no more connection with the access point...(i ping the access point and nothing...)
In the end, i still think one of the best solution, is someone tell me what is the access point i should use for it to work well :-).
What i did ? I assigned an IP to my acces point, assigned an IP to the Toshiba so it can have internet witht the IP of the router (not the access point).

I had similar problems where my e740 was being recognized, but for some reason it just wouldn't bring up email or any web sites.
I run and Windows XP Pro system, and a Linksys BEFW11S4 router with latest firmware.
Several tries still got me nowhere, despite the e740 showing the correct SSID and channel.
I finally got it connected. What I did was, I went into my router set up, and refreshed the set up pages, once I saw the MAC address listed in DHCP list, I gave the e740 another try and presto, wireless access.
Had been at it several hours, and this is what finally got it working for me.

I had a problem initially when I tried to setup my WiFi at home and at the office. Like you, the e740 showed that I was connected and with good signal strength.
I am using the Linksys WiFi hubs at both locations and they are about one year old. It turns out that the hubs needed a BIOS update which I downloaded from the Linksys website. It was easy to do and once done, I was online no problem.
If you are using Linksys hubs you may want to give that a try.
