This is way cool and pdagranny gets all the credit for this. (I'm just the messenger.) She just turned me on to Newpen, a small (23K) freeware utility that let's you enter Palm grafitti via the screen! And like the grafitti area, you enter letters on the left side of the screen, numbers on the right. Your TT can remain small and compact because there is no need to open the slider to enter data. An added benefit is that you can use larger grafitti strokes for better accuracy. I just downloaded it 1/2 hour ago, unzipped it, installed it, and tried it. It works great!!!

One bit of warning, read the "NewpenE.pdf" file carefully, as it warns you to disable Newpen, uncheck "Command Bar Support", and do a soft reset BEFORE uninstalling. It doesn't say what would happen if these were not done, but I'm not about to risk my $500 (retail; not what I paid) Tungsten T to find out.

Here's the link:

Hope you find this useful.

This works great in most applications except when using Documents to Go. I find that it doesn't recognize certain letters, sometimes brings me to a different point in the document.
Does anyone else have this problem?
By the way it works great in Datebook, Address and Memo Pad.

Yes, folks! It is a very useful tool for the TT palm. You keep it small and nice, while you write on the screen. Magnifico!!!

If you just start writing something with it and there is a place to "move to" in the app, the app will think that you want to move there. If you can try to write somewhere where the app does not expect you to move to in the normal course of operation. This is more difficult in Document to Go and others, but with practice you'll find out how to write with it just writing.

I wish I had this on my m505, but on my TT it is great!!

captainstarwars, did you try installing Newpen as an application and not as a hack? It's been working great for me!

MCWHOP, I am using Newpen in DocumentToGo Ver 5 and it works fine. I notice within a SheetToGo, I must select the cell and then tap the text line at the bottom to place the cursor there. I can then enter data via Newpen. In WordToGo, Newpen works without any problems. In SlideshowToGo, I can enter data in Outline view and in Notes view, but not in Slide view.

mtteixeira and maledetto, I'm glad you like Newpen. I feel like it was made for TT owners!

It's a cool utility, isn't it? And the price is definitely right! ... Kinda makes you wonder why Palm doesn't include something like Newpen with all their units.

I saw from CIC (makers of JOT), that JOT is going to be bundled with the new Tungsten W. Jot has the functionality of not only letting you write on the screen, but of recognizing your regular handwriting, not just graffiti. I have contacted Jot, as I am a registered user, and they said they will have an upgrade to OS5 compatibility very soon.

Thanks for the info about Jot. Handwriting recognition on my Tungsten would be cool, since I can't read my own handwriting most of the time. :D I will try Jot when they release it for OS5.

A major factor for me will be cost. NewPen is freeware while Jot currently costs $39.00. I'll have to try Jot to compare with NewPen and decide if it's worth the cost to me.
