I tried to install a new map area using mapsource for my Ique 3600 but this would not work so I uninstalled the palm desktop and Mapsource. Now the installation will not go beyond mapinstall no matter how many times I tried. Do I need to do a hard reset?

By 'did not work', what do you mean? It can take quite some time to install the maps, and it can look like nothing is going on, but there is......you have to be patient. I've had a large mapset (MA to Tenn) take well over 20 minutes to compile, the install time was just as long.
As far as uninstalling, why did you do that? A hard reset isn't going to do anything to the desktop. Please be more explicit as to what you did.

I don't really understand the question(s).
You tried installing a map with Mapsource. From your further description, it seems that you mean that you tried to install a Mapsource map with Mapinstall, not with the Mapsource program. Mapsource is a name used both for map products in general, as well as for a specific map handling program. This program isn't delivered with the iQue, but can be downloaded from Garmin's web site and installed, if you so desire.
"This would not work". What didn't work? Was it impossible to open Mapinstall, to mark which maps to use or to send them to the iQue?
Is it the new installation of Palm Desktop that doesn't work for you now, or is it the installation of maps to your iQue?
Since you consider doing hard resets, it seems that you are referring to the iQue. A hard reset of your PC doesn't seem logical. But then I don't get what you mean that the installation "doesn't go beyond Mapinstall"?
Note: I started writing this before Ann posted her reply, hence some double messages. But I think we are equally confused...

Hi: Sorry I wasn't too clear, just very frustrated. It all started when I tried to install a map by clicking on the mapinstall
button from the left menu on the Palm desktop. I can't even go to the map selection screen. All I get now from the Installshield wizard is:
Please " add/Remove programs" in your start-->windows-->settings-->control panel to remove all city select North America City Select versions and run this setup again.

OK. Try using the Repair command, instead of uninstall. This has helped some people.

In obne of the earlier responses in this thread, it was said that the mapsource program could be downloaded from Garmin. I'm usually pretty good at finding this kind of thing, but in this case I'm lost. Can anyone point me in the right direction. I sure would like to have that as an option.
Ron
ps. Been browsing for a while and finally have registered.

Just a couple Of things. I finally called Garmin's tech support and was directed to use regedit from the windows start button to clean out all instances of Garmin, mapsource and mapinstall fromthe registry. Now I can run mapinstall to download map areas with no hangups. From Garmin's home page search for IQUE 3600 or 3200 and select the download updates from the search results page or the main page. Else try the following link
