I have a Tungsten E. My wife has a Clie J25. My daughter has an old Handspring Visor. I (Tungsten) can't beam anything to my wife (Clie). All other beaming operations in both directions work fine (including Clie to Tungsten). The Clie shows nosign of recogntiona nd the Tungsten finally gives up saying no ther device could be found.
As usual I am grateful for any help which has always been great for me.

First thing to try is a soft reset on all three machines. What types of files or data are you tryig to beam?

I should have mentioned that I tried soft resets. Same result. I've been trying to bean datebk5 categories. But I get the same problem when trying to beam contacts. Thanks

Do you have the same version of DB5 on all three machines? The problem is that the TJ25 uses a contacts database which is different than the one on the Visor and also different than the one on the the T|E. Yo may have to be in the legacy datebook apps in both the Clie and the T|E for beaming contacts to work.

Both the T-E and the Clie have the same Dtbk5. The Visor had no Dtbk. I have treid to beam both Appointment categories and contacts. I'tt try something else and let you know what happens. Sorry but I'm not sure what you mean by "legacy datebk apps". Thanks for your help Jim.

The T|E and the TJ25 both have enchanced versions of the datebook and addressbook applications. The T|E, for example has Calendar, which is the new app and uses a different database that the old standard datebook. The T|E still has the Palm datebook application with a mirror of a subset of the data in the new Calendar app. That's what I meant by legacy datebook applications. The Visor has DateBk+, a cut down version of DateBk3. I'm thinking that you need to be in the old, standard Palm datebook and addressbook applications to beam data between these different database types.

Forgive me for being so ignorant. I purchased the Datebk5 for these units just so I could share calendar categories with my wife (dual date no longer working with these OS's). Is what you're saying that this is, in fact, impossible? Thanks

DateBk5 uses the "old" datebook database so it should be possible to beam events by category from any two machines equiped with DateBk5. You have to make sure you are in DateBk5 and use the beam command from there rather than the "new" calendar programs. In theory, the same should work with the Visor since it has DateBk+ although I don't think DateBk+ has calendar categories. If you continue to have problems, you should try e-mailing CESD and asking him about the problem since he's very responsive to customer questions.

Thanks. In fact we were both in the same version of Datebk5. I will contact CESD as you suggest. Rick

After some delay I attempted to beam other programs not related (I think) ti Datebk5-- always on and a backgammon game. Same deal. Leading me to think it's not related to the database issue. Any ideas? Thanks

The problem maybe the Preferences. I don't know about the Sony but on my T/E in Preferences under Power I can turn Beam Receive on and off.
I have been able to beam files to a Palm IIIxe but not a M125. The M125 was too old.
