Hello !

I am living in Los Angeles and think seriously to buy the new PDA HX 4700 from Hp to stay connected to the web while I drive all over this huge city ... but in meantimes I have plenty of questions... and maybe there is an expert around who might provide to me somes parts of his knowledge.

1) What is the best way to be sure to have a maximum of wifi hot spot for the better price. or for free ?

2) Is the HX 4700 work well while browsing on the web if you compare with a litle powerbook for exemple ?

3) Is it possible to use the "Hotsynchro software" from my HX 4700 to my Powermac via VIRTUAL PC.

4) Somebody on an other forum complain about the fact Windows mobile and the HX 4700 are not enough stable... frozen screennn .. lock up etc etc ... too much soft reset to do ... is it true ? or this guy is totally under halucinogene mushroom ..

5) I am not a big expert in informatic but also I am wondering if it's possible with the HX 4700 to access to the web not wifi but by Cellphone wireles network... there is 2 plug in the back .. wondering if it''s not possible to plug a special card for GSM wireles network ??

6) If you know for exemple a very good and stable laptop not to expenssive not too big, fast to start and not too expensive ... PLEASE LET ME KNOW ... otherwise i will buy the HX 4700.

I think that's all my questions.
Thanks for your reply in advance .

1> You can search for free hotspots in your area, there are many sites offering search service. An example:
http://www.jiwire.com/
2>Even with vga and landscape format, the screen is still only 4", you do need to scroll a little more than laptop, the pocket internet explorer does have less features than the desktop one, you may have problems with a few sites. There are a few 3rd party browsers (some're free, some're not) for win mobile that help with these issues.
3> Do you mean Activesync? I've heard that it works. There are also 2 commercial softwares (Missing Sync, PocketMac)that let you sync win mobile device directly with mac without activesync.
4> I don't think this particular model is any worse than other recent comparable models from HP or from other companies. HP has good replacement policy if the unit is still under warranty.
5> It depends on your cell provider. But you can connect to your cell phone via bluetooth if your phone is bluetooth capable. And there is cable that let you connect ipaq to several cell phone models.
6> If you are already familiar or leaning in the Mac direction, the new iBook is $999.

AND LIKE OFTEN ONE QUESTION LAUNCH ANOTHER ONE.... I am wondering if with the windows mobile explorer it is possible to make a big list of favorites... and for exemple wich kind of websites cannot be run with the HX ... is myspace.com will run with or ICQ or Craiglist.com ... or mapquest ?
But as you write .. third party can fix the troubles.

DO YOU MEAN THOSE SOFTWARE DON'T need VIRTUAL PC they are specially designed to run the synchro HX 4700 windows mobile to my OS X Mac system ?

YES AND HP TOLD ME BY PHONE .... it's possible to order by internet and return after 14 days ... so It give time to cheick if the devices fit my needs or not .

OOOHH ! one moment do you mean I can access on the web via a bluetooth cell phone without special internet subscription from my cellular company ??? really ? or do you just mean NO WIRES between the PDA and the phone ?

3> Yes, you will be able to connect and sync ipaq to Mac without the need of Virtual PC, for more information:

http://www.pocketmac.net/

5> More than likely, you will need a subscription and with bluetooth phone there is no wire connection between pda and the phone.

Mapquest has a PDA-formatted site: http://wireless.mapquest.com/Palm/v3.0/index.html

If you are using a motorcycle quite a bit, I suggest you look into getting a Bluetooth GPS system -- Several companies make clips that allow you to use them on your bike. There are even systems that allow you to hear the turn-by-turn spoken commands in your helmet. There are a few good accounts of using these systems on www.gpspassion.com.

I tried Myspace.com and Craiglist.com, and both seem to work as far as I can tell (both require a bit of scrolling)

The version of IE I have doesn't work with JAVA scripts, and other plug-in dependent content. It will, however, allow you to download files (video, etc).
