Got a brand new hx4700 iPAQ a few days ago, fell in love with it (my wife is gonna kill me), and proceded to install a gazillion programs and get it all nicely set up. You've all been there - many hours of pretty mundane work.
Last night it suddenly crashed right after I had opened up system\today. It would not respond to my efforts to perform a soft reset, etc. The hp screen would come on each time and stop right there. So I did the hard reset and proceded to reinstall everything. And then, guess what? It crashed again and I was unable to get it going again without a hard reset.
Sounds like a hardware problem to me? Could this be a software conflict of some kind. Don't suggest a bug - I even had Norton antivirus for PDA's installed and it had found no bugs just yesterday afternoon!
Arrrrgghhh. I hope this was just the one bad unit and not representative of the hx4700.
Thanks!
Michael

It's also possible considering you installed a lot of softwares that there's a software or combination of softwares causing this problem. Take a closer look at any Today screen plugins you are using, make sure you have the latest version. Perhaps you can install one plugin at a time and use the ipaq for a few day to see if the problem comes back. You may be able to find the culprit.

Thanks!
So you think it COULD be a software conflict that would result in a crash requiring a hard reset. That was my first thought also, but I was hoping that the software had progressed beyond that point by now. That is why I included in my post about how I had opened the system\Today screen in both situations. Yes, I have all the latest versions of the software, but a conflict might still be the culprit.
Thanks!!!

Well, so far so good. I think I have found the culprit although I cannot be sure because I have not wanted to cause it to crash again! So I have not installed "Resco Stickies" this time around and no problem after 24 hours. I have upgraded the Today screen software that came with the hx4700 to RhinoWare Platinum, both the Program Launcher and the Today screen. I am pretty sure that Resco Stickies also gets into the Today screen and the Today setup and that is where the conflict must be.
The hx4700 is incredible - really great screen, very fast, works great for web surfing and email. I like it!
