I'm relatively new to the PDA community, and I have what may be some stupid questions. First, is there a difference between Windows CE and other Pocket PC operating systems? I have an iPaq h1940, which I've seen elsewhere on the 'net listed with Windows Mobile 2003, but mine appears to be running Windows CE 4.something. If there's a difference, can I upgrade or install a newer version of the OS?
Thanks in advance for helping out!

Wince is the original name of the OS that all pocketpc run on. I am not to familiar with the model Ipaq you have but I bet that it is running windows mobile 2003 and wince 4.0 is the official name of that OS.

Is that official how it's known to the public or official as it's known to MS? Most of the references I see at MS identify it as Windows Mobile 2003 SE and not WinCE 4 directly.

Windows CE is the name of the core OS, PocketPC and now Windows Mobile are the names of the product(OS+other stuffs).
For example, both pocketpc 2000 and 2002 have Win CE 3.0 os. Both WM2003 and WM2003SE have Win CE 4.2 os. Ipaq 1940 is WM2003 and has Win CE 4.2.
