Hi, I am new to this fourm and looking for some information to help me choose a PDA, I currently use a Psion Revo, but have had enough of the battery problems assosicated with this unit.

I would like to know whether I can download Microsoft Excel and Access files to a Palm M515 or Tungsten, mailny to view them, but on the odd occasion to make modifications and then send back to a PC ? or do I need to go for a pocket PC.

I like the idea of a palm as I would prefer a smaller lighter item.

Thanks

I think the 515 is an excellent unit, and the prices are very fair at this time.

Access files need to be "handled" and shown on the palm by way of another app. I use HanDBase 3. Check out their web site DDHSoftware.com.
I like HandBase for its stability, excellent Forms, and the conduit to the PC.
For Excel, I use QuickSheets from CESINC.com.
Both Access and Excel files can be viewed and worked with on the Palm then they will be conveyed to the appropriate program on the PC with all of the editing and additions. Perfect synchronization.

another great software for word, exel etc. is Documents To Go, www.dataviz.com, their software is great! and very easy to use, great synchronization! =) it's easy to import and export files from the palm and pc, it's all about "drag-n-drop", check out the website and you will understand! =)

I agree with the use of QuickSheets, or in my case, the entire QuickOffice suite of apps. They're extremely easy to use and do a great job.

Quicksheets is the standout in the Quickoffice package if you are a serious Excel user.
There are differences in the DataViz and QuickOffice spread sheet apps and it is worth reviewing both to find the one you are personally most comfortabel with.

I also use Docs to Go and find version 5 just excellent. The same company have just acquired ThinkDB and renamed it Smartlist to Go and that synchs with Access databases - works really well for what I need!

I really like both. With ThinkDB you can also get desktop software to create files.
