I am thinking about buying an expansion card for my palm 500 around 16mb. What should I look for in a card and should I look for a certain brand? I have a bible program that has taken a great amount of my internal memory and I would like to move that over to the card. If I do this, will it slow my palm? I do have FILEZ program as a utility.
Help me please.
thank you:confused:

As to expansion cards. I am not sure that brand matters a lot, what I would do is make sure you buy it somewhere you can take it back it you have problems.
Now as to the size. I would not go for a 16mb. Go bigger, as you will end up needing it once you find out how nice they can be. I also have a Bible program and wanted to do as you. Once I did I wanted to add the extras and guess what, I was out of space and had to buy another one. Go for a 64mb, you will not regret it and it is not that much more than buying a 16mb and then finding out you need another.
Any porgrams you run from the card will be a little slower, but not so much that it is going to bother you. One thing you need to remember is that most programs that run from a card must copy themselves back to main memory before running, so if you want to run them from the card leave enough main memory for them to be run. In other words you should make sure to leave at least 3 to 4 mb free in your main memory.
Hope that this helps & have a good day,

I must agree. Go with a SanDisk SD 64MB. That's what I have, they're cheap, and they have great quality. Whatever you do, stay away from Palm-Brand cards...way over-priced (not surprizingly).
I hope I'm not just copying someone else's post. Anyhow, go ahead to Best Buy or something and get a SanDisk SD 64MB for about $40 (USD), because it's well worth an extra $10 to up-grade from a 32MB to a 64MB...I hope that that made sense.
Thanks!

I own a Lexar 64MB SecureDisk Card for my palm m500, retail price around $40-45, also a good choice.
and also avoid MutiMedia Card, which have a slow communicate speed than SecureDisk Card, though the price is a little bit lower than SD card.

SD is theoretically 4x faster than MMS, but the Palm data bus is so slow that there is hardly and difference in speed between MMC and SD - you can only go so fast through San Francisco, whether you drive a Porche or a VW Bug.
SD is coming down in price, and you will be able to use in faster, future devices.
You can save a few $ now by going MMC or "go for it" and get SD. Both work just as well in an m500.
