Batt. Light Blinks ....

I have an old 4500,and whenI charge it the charge light comes on for a while and then starts to blink. While blinking there is no chargeing . Does anyone know what would be the problem with this thing. Oh if you unplug it and replug it it will stop blinking for awhile.
