I always used my pc to access this board now that I'm using my netbook I'm struggling!
Why is it that when I attempt to insert a smiley in the message Opera crashes out with the reason USER 23?
The little envelope icons on the left of post ~ what does an envelope with a black dot on mean?
Does anyone find that it hangs up trying to load something from 'doublequick' during preview or that the post new thread area is truncated sometimes and only shows fields down as far as the title?

(I'm sorry if these aren't netbook questions - couldn't see where else to put them)

Frank

(this is the second time I've written this - you've guessed it.. I put a smiley in automatically!!!)

Hi,

I use the PC for the forum so I dont know why it crasheswith the smilies, sorry. I do know what the black dot on the envelope means though, it means you've posted a reply on that topic.

Posting this from my netBook as a test.

To answer your question, the black dot in the envelope icon signifies a thread in which you have participated.

It occurs when you attempt to insert a smiley by tapping on its icon, but not when you key in the code to generate it, which is my normal method, and why I hadn't previously noticed this. This might be a bit of a pain if you're used to tapping the icon, but at least it's a workaround.

I'm wondering whether this could be a memory issue, or to do with the speed of your Net connection - what method are you using to connect? Does your netBook have the RAM upgrade?

I've had the smiley crash on many an occasion - I have to remember not to use smileys when surfing with the netBook!

Perhaps use the text codes, then, when you're on the netBook, so we can benefit from the smileys you would like to include? ;) :D

Here's a list of what to type for the smileys. I've disabled them from displaying in this particular post so that you can see what you need to key in.

Smile: :)
Frown: :(
Embarrassed: :o
Big Grin: :D
Wink: ;)
Stick out tongue: :p
Shades:
Rolleyes:
Mad:
Shocked:
Confused:

Try them out - they're quite quick to use once you get used to them.

When I tested that last post, displaying the smileys graphically to make sure they were correct, I got an error message saying I had used too many images.

I never knew there was a limit on the number of smileys - I guess I must never have tried to use all eleven in a post before! :p

Thanks to all who replied. My other problems seem to have been access problems thay aren't bothering me today for example when my dial up is working well (its 5am).

Have you seen the thread that I posted on modem/mobile...etc forum concerning netbook when mobile?
