Everytime I try to sync with my desktop it freezes at Media.. If I go under Hotsync and tell it not to sync Media it works fine.. There are no pictures or videos on either my computer or palm.. Any idea whats going on?

Do a warm reset and immediatly do a hot sync. That's all that I can think of. Did you redirect the media folder on the PC? If so, maybe it's trying to put it in a place that is not there.

This is due to a file of an unknown format being placed in the Photos & Videos folder. Media tries to sync that file, but since it doesn't recognize it, it can't do it. Use Filez or something to move the offending file to another location on your handheld.

Just a quick "thanks!" for the info on removing files of the "wrong" type.

(I'm going to make this longer rather than shorter in case the info helps anyone else out with specific "to dos" for this problem.)

I'm running MacOS 9.2 (no money for OS X!), and had no hotsync problems until the first time I tried uploading an image that hadn't been created with the built-in camera. Hotsynch would work normally until it got to Media -- it would run and run and then the Hotsynch app on my Mac would go Pfft! and disappear, leaving a rather confused Zire that would neither finish synching nor be able to cancel the synch operation until I hit the reset button.

Interestingly enough, any new images I had taken with the camera *would* be on the Mac's hard drive -- the hotsynch operation simply never got past the Media application.

After reading the post here about a file of "unknown" type, I used a resource editor to look at the full contents of the palmOne folder, and lo and behold there was an invisible "icon" file sitting there. I made it visible (Mac power users loooove ResEdit, old as it may be!), dragged it to the trash, and had my first normal and 100% successful hotsynch immediately afterwards.

Thanks!
