this one is weird, at least to me. Last night, when changing SD cards, my iQue froze up on me. A soft reset didn't work, a hard reset didn't work ... except, of course, to screw up my Outlook sync software.
After fooling with it this morning, I find that it works just fine without the card present ... freezes immediately once the card is inserted.
Also no recognition beep when card is inserted or removed.
Anyone seen this before.
It'd be nice if I could fix this without Garmin, since I'm now 20 days past warranty ... sigh!

Just a wild guess, but are you inserting the card when the ique is switched off? It probably makes no difference?

a little update ... I did a bit more experimenting last nite .... put in a brand new never-used SD card .... and had no problem.
So ... thinking back, the two cards I was testing with are obviously corrupted by have inserted them into a card reader and viewing the contents w/ Windows Explorer.
I had removed the 512mb SD card from the iQue and inserted into the multi-card reader to see what the format was fo rJPGviewer pics ... obviously my bad.

So, now a different picture ... how do I erase an SD card so it can be reused in the iQue?

BTW, Bokkie, I did indeed insert/remove the cards with the unit off ... but that seems to make no difference, the unit is never really "off" ... more like "on standby"

That's what I was suspecting was the case. As for formatting, you are better off with one of those snazzy usb devices that handle multiple card formats with a slot for each. I'm not sure if you are US location, but Belkin in the UK do a sort of 6-in-1 type device or something silly like it. There are lots of read/writers available and they cost a few $. Some here swear by them and find them quicker to transfer large map sets.

Actually, I was using a Belkin 6-in-one to read the cards ... and that seems to be what corrupted them.
Guess I'll do a bit more experimentation tonight, since the new card showed me there was no damage caused to the iQue (thank goodness!)
