I really am getting fed up of this iPAQ lark.

tonight I have just sync'd to my PC and yet again, I have ended up with a calendar full of duplicate entries. This has to be the most frustrating process I have ever had to deal with in my computing life.

I'm off to have a sulk now and bang my head against the wall.

Which version of outlook are you using? I know in 2000 that was a problem, and I never instaleld 2002, but 2003 doesn't seem to do it to me.

It is Outlook 2000, I'll have a look at upgrading to Outlook 2003

Thanks for the tip

Try the 2002 that came with it first, it's free and nearly identical looking to 2000.

2003 is fantastic for me much better than 2000 and 2002

Just check under sync options that you donīt create duplicates. You need to put a tic in the box. Also when syncing tic "overwrite" old stuff.

@ messy

I did. Its just every now and again it goes to sync and I notice all the duplicates have appeared. It can work great for weeks and then it just does it out of the blue.

Check if you have any "auto" sync options activated. If yes; deactivate them.

If it makes ya feel any better, I bought my iPAQ from someone who just got totally fed up with screwing around with it. I figured he was just wasn't the patient, methodical sort but quickly discovered the iPAQ really is a royal pain-in-the-butt to configure and get running.

I found some third party software extremely useful in lowering the iPAQ pain threshold. The "Pocket Controller" software from SOTI allows you to operate the iPAQ from your PC with the mouse and keyboard. It's sorta like the VNC remote operating software for a PDA I found that being able to use my keyboard and mouse speeds up the iterative loops that characterize interacting with the iPAQ. I am rarely willing to pay for "extra" software but this software was well worth $30 just in frustration reduction.

BTW - that urge to "bang my head against the wall," will never leave you. I've been a software geek for close to three decades now and I still get that feeling more than I like. Bummer, huh?

best regards

I don't really mind all the fiddling with the iPAQ its when it takes over and messes with my Important data that it slightly annoys me ;)

I seem to have a bad memory these days and regular forget about those little things I'm supposed to do. So I use the calendar to save notes to remind be of things coming up and also as a look back and memory jogger on things I haven't been working on in a while. This was one of the main reasons for having a PDA so when it fails to do its job, it becomes a major problem. Second to that is knowing I can rely on it when I need it, and at the moment I don't trust it. Data in the calendar has gone missing as well as finding duplicates of whats left.

I've taken the advice posted above about Outlook 2003 and fingers crossed it hasn't messed up again yet. Part of the problem is probably related to me syncing to two PCs but its does say it can do it, so I expect it to work.

Thanks for the info on Pocket Controller, I'll have a look for that.
