I know I have just started with my first pda (515) about a month ago, but I just don't like being behind the curve. I post here, because if I post at tungsten (they are probably biased because they already have one). Anyway, I can get it for $459 with no shipping/handling or tax. Does anyone think the prices will go down soon? Is it worth the money? I have date book 5, cloak, tabers, key contacts and epocrates.....any problems that yall know about? While spending 800. in one month on pda does not tickle me (not to mention all the software) I do like the resolution and that is probably the biggest factor in my decision. I don't know enough about speed of pda's to know if there is much difference. I have read some positive and some just slightly negative. Like I said, my 515 is my first pda and only a month (or less) old.

I also can't resist the new technology. I upgraded to the Tungsten after having the 515 for only two months - so you aren't alone.

I think I've owned every PDA on the market and finally found one that combines all the features that are important to me. I don't think there is any ONE right pda, the key is finding one with features you want.

I wanted the:

*standard Palm interface - rules out the new Sony and CE devices
*color - for the old eyes (I finally have a pda I don't have to take my glasses off to use. The higher resolution makes the difference.)
*voice recorder
*faster processer
*small size - and a shape that will fit in my pants pocket at work. I think it's often forgotten that some pda users can't put them in a shirt pocket.
*clear case - I hate opening a case to see why the alarm is sounding.
*very LOUD alarm - actually this should be at the top of the list. I used the Handera 330 just for the alarm, but couldn't read the screen.
*music - although not a top priority, very nice. AudioPlus works fine for now, better then on the Handera330. I'm looking forward to a program that will play mp3's without the coversion necessary for AudioPlus.

I do use Datebk5 and haven't had any problems except when also using NewPen (Freeware) Using NewPen allows me to write on the screen and not have to open the slider.

I usually have doubts about switching pda's because I'm loosing a favorite feature, but not in this case. I'm not going to say that you should run right out and get it, but recommend you look at the features that you want in a pda, then decide. That or say, what the heck, that's what I work for and go and get the new toy. :)

I waited for two years before I finally decided to get a pda. Did not think I could be organized enough to use it....well, I learned and like it. I bought my 515 a week or so before the Tungsten came out and since it was a spontaneous purchase I did not investigate the upcoming products. I don't want to be there again if I get the Tungsten; ie, have it outdated within a few months.

thanks for the input, it is pushing me in the direction I want to go.

One more question. I had to put on my 515 "stay-off" because when it is in pocket or anywhere, even in case, the buttons would activate the palm and run the battery down. Does the tungsten have the same problem? If so, is there a fix?

Thanks

I didn't have the problem of the 515 turning on since I had in a Palm hard case, but I've seen information about a hack. I think it's called "stayoff hack".

The power button is a lot smaller on the TT then the 515 button. It's also on the top of the machine instead of the front, so less chance of it turning on. When looking at the pictures of the TT on the web, I thought the clear cover had cutouts for the 4 function buttons, but they are indentations so the buttons can't be accidently pushed.

Just a note, if you bought your 515 at Best Buy you may be able to return it or exhange it for the TT since it's been less then 30 days. That's the exchange policy the local Best Buy has.

Have fun deciding.
