I'm currently looking to replace my Palm IIIxe with a new PDA but would prefer not to pay over $200. Is the Tungsten E my best choice for under $200 or is there something better (ie: Sony Clie TJ27, etc.) out there?

Thanks.

Either this, or the Zire 31 (I've read good reviews on both, but decied to pay the extra $50 dollars for the TE, because the 31 was often refered to as a 'toy')

Thanks for the reply. It seems to me that there are not A LOT of huge differences between the E and the Zire 31:

E / Zire31:

126MHz vs 200MHz

32MB vs 16MB

320x320 vs 160x160 screen

E-mail Web-browsing capable / not

Video Playback / not

These are the only major differences I see. Any other major differences I didn't see?

Just a comment on the resolution:
I read that it makes a big difference to have the higher resolution (that was one of the key factors in getting the TE over the Z-31) when you wanna read stuff. B/c I take a lot of word documents in Docs To Go along with me.
But I guess that's a matter of what you want to do with your PDA.
IMO The TE is a good all around entry level device, but then again I've only had it for about a week now. I did a lot of research, especially at epinions.com

Hey folks,

If you can pay the extra $$ get the T|E, i wouldnt go for a Sony.

Without the nice screen that the T|E has it''s very hard to read/view it in sunlight and if you want to view photo's it isnt very clear.

The Zire 31 does NOT come with Documents to Go (the program that allows you to read and create word, powerpoint, excel etc.).

I think that you can get a program from somewhere to view video's on the zire 31 but most people say "whats the point", because the screen is hopeless.

Overall the T|E wins for a few extra $$.

I had to decide between the 2 to. ;)

Ask me more questions if you like.

Camski,

It seems the best deal I've found for the E is $199 from PalmOne.com - it has free shipping and comes with a 128MB memory card for free. Do you know of a better deal anywhere else?

Also, does the Tungsten E come (as is) so I can create Excel programs from day one or do I have to download something or buy something extra?

Can I download Excel programs I have already created?

Thanks for your help.

I've seen it for as low as 150, but the free shipping and memory card more than make up for the price difference! I currently use a 64 MB card, and it's as big as I need, but hey, if you can get free memory, then get it!
Also, To use excel, you have to upgrade your docs-to-go program. I don' t know how much it will cost.

hello TBB,

Tungsten E does come bundled (with) documents to go, you use docs to go to creat word documents, excel, powerpoint, etc.

I believe that PalmOne's price is one of the best because it comes with a free memory card. 128MB is a good size.

I think maybe you should just buy it direct from PalmOne.

Good luck,

Holy crap. If he posted once many people would see it. Why did he post sooo much?

Any MODs wanna clean up after him?

Yes, I've seen it. He's a new guy who's trying to get information and not up on the proper posting techniques. I'm not going to delete anything but, tennisbumbishop, please try to post questions under the same topic if they're about getting a new T|E rather than starting new threads each time.
