I turn on my ipaq and listen to an mp3 with headphones, there is far too much bass, enough to distort the sound.
But if I turn on my ipaq and listen to an mp3 without headphones, it's good.
This problem only come about with headphones conected from the beginning (when i turn on ipaq with headphones)

Nitestrike is right - some headphones emphasize the bass tones for a "richer" sound.

I'm using the Sony MDR-W08 headset with my 3970; I have no problem using the built-in audio setting flat (Compaq Audio base boost and trebble adjustment at "0"). I sometimes use withMP3; in that case I rely on modified preset equalizer settings to get the optimal sound.

I have a 3975 with a foldable Optima headset without any problems.

I think this is a known problem for "some" 3900 ipaqs. Hopefully it will be fixed with a new patch soon. In the mean time, try this not-so-elegant work around and see of it helps, go in Compaq Audio and move the bass slider up one notch and back to where it was.

Which part don't you understand? My misspelling? or the suggested solutions?
