New guy here on the block asking what you may consider one of those dumb*** ?'s. Have mercy.

Just got my new Dell Axim x50v. What do I need to get wireless access when out and about?

nothing. you have it all. :D

i havent bought mine yet, so i cant really try, but some netstumbler software would be usefull to hunt out WiFi Hotspots.

But, in answer to your question, you dont need anything else.

Have it all? I've got pda. But what about an isp provider or proxy to connect? Do I just call up verizon and say I want to get wireless interent for my handheld? And bingo-bamgo- bongo, I'm wired?

The Dell owner's manual is pretty vague.

i think were on a different line here.

If you want to use wireless internet with verizon, im guessing you need a phone with bluetooth to make a connection to a DialUp ISP. Alternatively, try and get a GPRS bundle on your contract. But all this is to do with your mobile.

The Axim can get wireless internet using WiFi (802.11b) which is nothing to do with your telecom company. I belive starbucks offer wifi access. all the settings etc are handled by them, and you dont need a mobile phone to use it.

So, for wireless internet, you have 2 choices - Wifi and via Mobile Phone.

With a netstumbler type application, you can find wifi hotspots that are open. normally they are peoples wifi routers, which they forgot to secure.

hope this helps.
