Morgan are selling a Bluetooth CF Card on their latest flyer. I've done a search to see if bluetooth works with a 7Book, but there are several conflicting threads (mind you the search ran to five pages and I was bog-eyed after reading them all)
Can anyone give me a definite answer - Will a bluetooth CF Card adaptor in a PC Card work on a netBook/7Book?
At £24 they look a bargain.

The CF card may work, but there are no bluetooth drivers for EPOC (ER5 anyway) so that part of the card will never work.

Thanks John - not much of a bargain then :)

Hi

Like Conkers I am totally baffled by the whole bluetooth thing, but could this be a possible solution?

They seem to be from the same company; free2move, that produced the serial port plug,

probably all you experts will come up with a reason hy this won't work- but I figured it was always worth a shot :))

In theory, the module supporting the serial port profile could possibly be fitted into the netBook shell (assuming there is room) and could be wired to the unused UART of the SA1100 (assuming physically/technically possible). Then assuming EPOC is pre-coded to recognise the unused UART as a device, it should be feasible to write a device driver for a new serial port.

But let's be honest, it isn't going to happen is it?

Interesting point, as such a development is currently happening in the psiLinux/openpsion world. Someone has had success with a bluetooth module converted from a usb dongle and attached to the serial port of the series 5, and is planning to replace the infra-red port with the bluetooth module to have it internally. This means no infra-red, but the main use for infra-red is to connect to a mobile phone, and bluetooth is much more convienient for that purpose. This of course, works only under Linux.

Since this went underway, I have been looking at adding a bluetooth module to the netBook, and have rather interestingly discovered that I *think* the first UART of the netBook (UART 0) is free, I havent confirmed this for sure yet though. Therefore, it should be possible to add a bluetooth module to the netBook without loss of functionality in other areas.

This will also only work in Linux though I'm afraid. I wont be doing anything on this until after the new year, but I'm pretty sure Linux is the way to go for netBooks. The main problem is finding replacements for the organiser functions in terms of comparitive functionality of Linux/EPOC, as well as the ever-present ease of use issue.

Interesting, great work. The question for me, (and I imagine other psion users) who have never used LINUX and know nothing of its features is how easy is it to get all the data we currently hold in EPOC onto Linux. Bluetooth on EPOC would be nice but IR will do for the moment if it means moving away from EPOC.

Many thanks
