I have had this PDA for a couple of days and have a few questions. The PDA works fine, it syncs with my PC, works quite well as a web browser via wi-fi. Great so far. But I want to use email via a POP3 account. So far without success. I can receive but not send even though my laptop works fine with the same user name / passwords etc. This could be an issue with my ISP, I just dont know. I am confused as how the PDA's Outlook is supposed to work. I can see my contact list, write a new email, but when I tap the send icon the message moves to the outbox and thats it. The Connect/disconnect icon and sending/receive icon are greyed out. I cannot find anyway to set the account up. I can set up other POP3 accounts which as I said receive but dont send out.
I dont understand why there is an Outlook, plus other accounts after I set them up. I would have thought that I set up outlook and then assign an account to it, but this doesn't seem to be it and I dont get it at all.
Can someone tell me what is supposed to happen? Is the PDA Outlook supposed too work like a PC Outlook? I cannot find any help info on the HP site, or the Microsoft site.

For sending mail issue, there's an option "Outgoing e-mail server requires authentication" tab that you may want to check

I never use my for sending e-mails only reading them. I think when it sync's with the PC it should transfer the file to the PC's Outbox and then send it from there.

Thanks, On the outgoing email thing. My company has installed an SMTP server which is supposed to work from anywhere. At the moment I can travel with a laptop almost anywhere and as long as the hotel provides internet access I can send and retrieve POP3 emails no problem. I can go back to the office and synchronise - all works fine. The problem with the PDA is that with the same settings (including the "Outgoing e-mail server requires authentication" which must be set) Simply does not work, it receives but does not send. So we either have a problem with the SMTP server or I need a replacement email account manager / or email program for the PDA that gives us more settings possibilities. I guess one way or another we will find out what is wrong.
The problem is that I dont understand how the PDA's Outlook program is supposed to function. I have since found some info on the Microsoft site, but nothing that helped me. I really need to get some advice from someone who has used the PDA Outlook and can explain the fundimentals so that I know what to expect.
Is the standar PDA Outlook email the way to go, or are there better solutions out their?
Thanks again for your suggestions!

i use the built in outlook to recv pop mail from yahoo but I never try to send -- for that I have been using IE and going to the web and logging in
i now remember that the outlook never worked to send
I also never sync to my desktop -- outlook always did crazy things to my contacts calendar and mail
I know thare is a program nPOPw which will recv and send mail and works very well
maybe a search on the forum will get you a good substitute program.
I use my ipaq as a substitute laptop and nolonger take my laptop on service calls
with a BT mouse and ir keyboard i can do anything i need

Hi, I seem to be having some luck. Unlike your Ipaq mine does seem to sync really well. It ran all day. Thats just one day but it is encouraging. I have installed another email program called WebIS mail. My email is now working (I can send and receive) via the wi-fi now, this seems to prove that there is something wrong with the standard Outlook account program. I am now looking for other (better) email programs. WebIS does work but it has fallen over a couple of times and I am not too excited about using it long term. Can anyone recomend a good email. I have not tried NpopW yet because I couldn't install it properly.

Hi Bill, You have already lost me. I just did a websearch and see that there are several webservers around at $4-$10 p/month. Is this what you are talking about. Or getting our IT people to implement it? I know nothing... give me a couple of hints please..
