How to do a hard reset?

My screen is stuck on the "Sony" screen. If I do a reset It cycles through the "Palm", the "Clie" and then the "Sony" screens. Then stops. I can't get it to turn off the screen.

This happened after I
1) let the batteries run out - clearing the device
2) charged the device
3) hot-synched to reload everything
4) it hung (didn't do anything for several hours) on the "cleaning up - please wait" section of the hot synch.
5) reset.

So can someone humor me and please let me know how to perform a more robust reset?

Hold down the Power on button. At the same time poke the reset pin in the reset hole. Remove the reset pin continue for 10 to 15 seconds to hold the Power on down. Let the the power button go. You should see a screen offering to remove all of your data if you push the scroll up button. Say Yes and you have doen the Hard Reset. Say NO and it may fix the hang up. If it doesn't fix the hang up do the Hard Reset again and say Yes.

Thanks, the hard reset did the trick. Well at least it unlocked it.
