Does it work better?
If it's true, how can I get that upgrade?

You already have pocketpc 2002 running on your ipaq 3950. If you are look for patches and genereal improvement of the os, keep an eye on this page, thers's nothing for 3900 series yet.

thank you for your answer.
my Ipaq shows me it is working with
Windows Pocket PC version 3.0
Is that not an old windows version?
Does that mean it is working under windows 2002?

Pocket PC vesion 3 is the same as pocket PC 2002.

I think you might be getting confused with Windows CE version 3.0 which is indeed rather old now.

Mine's a 3850 and it says "Windows CE 3.0" under OS Version. Aren't the 3850's supposed to come with PPC 2002 operating system from the factory? Kinda confused here:(

WinCE 3.0 is the basic operating system. It is on ALL Pocket PC's running PPC 2002. PPC 2002 is the GUI, or Graphical User Interface, and has all of the built in software.

Casio has a PPC with WinCE 3.0, but does NOT use PPC 2002, it uses it's own proprietary one.

The old PPC 2000 systems used WinCE 2.something.

Clear now?

If you have a 38/39 any series iPAQ, you have 2002 loaded on it. It can't run anything lower than OS2002!!!!!!!

There's no one yet that was able to put OS2000, on a iPAQ that is fatory default OS2002.

Win 3.0 is a platform

So if you look on the back of your unit, and it says 38xx, 39xx? You have OS 2002!

If you have a black top on your unit? You have OS 2002!!!

Geez....!

BTW, I didn't mean to come off sounding like a jerk...

Pre-PocketPC PDAs used to run WinCE 2.??... When the PocketPC first was introduced in early 2000, the operating system was known as "Windows for Pocket PC" (also called WinCE 3.0).

Pocket PC2002 is an updated version of the original "Windows for Pocket PC" but is still known as WinCE 3.0 -- Look at your "Asset Viewer", WinCE still shows up as the Operating System...

Okay, I have a iPAQ 3635. When I go to settings About, I find I have Windows CE version 3.0.9349 (build 9616).

When I go to settings, Asset Viewer, Version, I find Product Revision Level 1.0 with a Rom Date of 12/26/00 and ROM version 1.69.00 ENG.

Where do I find if there are updates or upgrades for this?

I went to the Microsoft link earlier in this thread and when I put in my iPAQ 3635, it asks about Pocket PC 2000 or Pocket PC 2002. It seems like I have CE 3.0. How do these relate?

Also, my media player is version 4.1.0.0160. Is there an update from this? Where do I find it?

The Microsoft site is difficult to navigate and understand if they are talking desktop, laptop or PDA. Is there an easier site to find the updates I need?

ROM updates are usually downloaded from the manufacturers web site. In the case of the iPAQ, it would be HP. The downloads can be found in the support section of the web site.

Start -- Settings -- System (middle tap) -- Asset viewer

Okay, let me try asking this again hoping for an answer.

What OS do I have? Do I need to upgrade? Also, what is the latest Media Player version and where do I find this?

Thanks again for whatever help you can provide.

Getting back to the original question, I believe you may be referring to the EUU 3.0 update for the iPaq 3950.
