Hi all,
I haven't researched this much but I thought I'd throw it out to you. A number of my co-workers got their first Palm devices for Christmas. Two of them have Palm Tungstens...not sure of the model but they are pretty much top of the line.
Yesterday I briefly tried to beam a word .doc to one of them, but I got a message something like..."can't find the device" .
What should we be looking for to make this happen?
Thanks
Gary

P.S. All of our devices have Bluetooth as well.

A version comes with some iPAQs or at least it did with my old iPAQ 3835...

If I may add on to that. . .

The Palm won't need to add anything to receive the beamed file, however, they will need to install a third party program - such as Documents to Go, or QuickOffice to actually open the documents.
Most of the newer Palm OS devices come with a version of Docs to Go on thier CD.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled forum.

...to this is to not let friends use a Palm...

PocketPC to PocketPC beaming works just fine without add-on software, at least in my experience...

HeHeHe... I have started saying that friends don't let friend beam... Once you start sending files via Bluetooth, you soon realize how inconvenient IR really is!

Thanks Npitlor,
If we both have BT enabled, will it become the default beaming method?

From what I have seen, no. When you tap and hold an item, you have choice of beaming or sending via BT. This is true no matter the status of a BT connection.

Have they banned these devices from school yet? Am I the only one that sees how easy it is to cheat with these devices? IR dude, tell your Palm users to get with the times and go Bluetooth.

:p :D :)

I was playing around with "Bluetoothing" stuff from a friend's Palm to my PPC.

We got it to work each time, but the key seems to be having the sending unit do all the work. Once the Bluetooth is on, the receiving unit will notify you that someone is trying to send something. Each unit will them prompt for a code (any code will work, it just has to be the same).

I never actually checked out his Palm, but he CLEARLY had a hard time trying to figure out how to actually send something via Bluetooth. I never had a problem -- You just tap and hold on the item, and the BT option comes up.

Sorry I can't help you much more...

Thanks. Just for the hell of it , tomorrow I'm going to have both of them beam a file from one Palm to the other, just to make sure it will work that way. Then I'll throw my Ipaq into the mix:)
