Just bought one and im not too impressed at the moment (probably because I am still not quite sure how to use it due to the manual being below average)

Everyone says ipaq's are great thats why I bought it
So far it doesnt recognise the usb connection
And I dont use Microsoft Outlook (I use express) so it wont sync properly

Any advice
Any good free downloads

For freeware, you can do some Google searches. But you'll end up at PocketGear a lot of the time (at least that's what I find). PocketGear's website for software is:
http://www.pocketgear.com/software.asp

As far as the USB problem, you really need to read the directions, because I believe there is a pretty strict order you have to do things (you should not have the USB connected before you start). To sync with something other than Outlook, you'll probably need different sync software. There's a lot out there; search the posts here and do some web searches.

Hope this helps.

I have to agree with qualityguyzee. It is most likely not the iPAQ. You may want to uninstall everything and then follow the installation guide step by step once again. One missed step could cause problems.

I cannot help with outlook express. I use Outlook with my 3835 and it works perfectly. You might try to search this board and there are a few other good ones. http://www.brighthand.com or http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com.

Get to know the iPAQ. I think in the end you will be pleased. I have had mine for 2 monts. Converted from handspring visor. I liked the visor, I LOVE the iPAQ.

I would be glad to answer any questions you might have. I have really exercised mine pretty hard and it has performed perfectly.

A quick search on http://www.brighthand.com for outlook express yielded a couple of good starting places on syncing outlook express.

It appears that there are a couple of programs that will help you sync outlook express. Microsoft did not make that an option with Active Sync alone. It is not a limitation of the iPAQ just of Microsofts Active Sync.

Good luck!:)

Hi Candice,
I have had the ipaq for about 8 months now and for the most part love it. It has some quirks but doesn't everything computer?!!! I have had similar problems with the usb syncing and have found that if I do a soft reset (depressing the little button on the bottom of ipaq, using your stylus), and attaching to the cradle WHILE turned on, this seems to alleviate (sp?) that particular problem. Also, try using Outlook. I think once you get used to it you'll love it. The whole program is WONDERFUL! Even if you want to continue using Outlook Express for your email, use Outlook for your contacts, appointments, etc. It really is a nice program. (Although for my ipaq interface, I use Pocket Informant. I LOVE it!) Anyway, hope this helps. Good luck!
