I have a Tungsten E and when I try to access Palm Desktop I get the message "Cannot initialize the rich text support" and the prgramme won't open. When I do a hot sync I get the OK saying it was successful so presumably that's working.

Please can someone help me?

What version of the Palm Desktop? What version of Windows? This error is usually caused by a corrupt RTF.dll file. You can go to the Microsoft support web site and download a new version or try a detect and repair if you're running WinXP.

Many thanks for your help.

I'm running Windows XP and as I can't access Palm Desktop I don't know what version of the programme it is. I've tried exploring the CD but can't see the version there. I also tried the repair option from the CD but I still get the Rich Text message when trying to open it.
If I go to the Microsoft support site do I search for RTF.dll?

Let's try this first. Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Software and uninstall the Palm Desjtop. Reinstall from your original CD and see if that fixes the problem. It's possible that the RTF.dll corruption can be fixed by a reinstall. You won't see the file on your Palm CD because it's contained in one of the CAB files.

I've uninstalled & re-installed from the original CD as you suggested and towards the end of the re-install I got the message "C:\WINDOWS\System32\RICHED32.dll is not a valid Windows image."
The installation appeared successful in that all the applications in my Tungsten hot synced OK, but again I get the Rich Text message when trying to access Palm Desktop.

Where do I go from here please?

It sounds like the install routine is corrupted on the CD. One way around this is to copy the entire CD to a temporary folder on your hard drive and install from there if you have the disk space.

It's also possible that your Riched32.dll file is a leftover from a VB 5 or 6 install on Windows 98 and the installer is seeing this as an invalid XP file and hanging. I'm attaching a copy of the correct Riched32.dll file for XP to this message. Unzip and replace any existing Riched32.dll file in your Windows\System32 folder with this file. After you've done so, uninstall and reinstall the Palm desktop again and see if the installation succeeds.

Many thanks for the download but I'm sorry to say it didn't work.
I contacted my PC's manufacturer and they told me to use the XP Recovery Disk and run sfc /scannow. Luckily that repaired my corrupt file and all is well again.

Thank you for your help - it was much appreciated.
