I have recentlybought a Clie T665C to replace my Handspring Visor Prism that died. Although the screen resolution is better (320 X 320) it is nothing like as bright, contrasty or vibrant as the Visor, or even as the scren on my laptop (Thinkpad), even with the brightmness slider all the way to the right and backlight on. Is this a general observation, or could it be my individual unit that has a fault, or is there some way of increasing the brightness further?

Thank you

It sounds like it may be your particular Clie. I recently bought a
665 & a Toshiba E335 to compare. I actually turned the brightness
down on the 665 all the way (to save battery and to test brightness) and I could easily see in daylight outdoors.

I just received my new T665C from Sony today. I've got no problem with the brightness, but have some slight backlight shadowing from the bottom of the screen. I think it's probably from the way in which things are mechanically put together.
All things considered, it's barely noticeable.

Yes, Goat Sucker, I have the same situation. I have also a PPC (Casio E-125) which blows away the Clié for brightness, and to be honest, I was a little disappointed in the Clié.

But I would really like to hear if someone has confirmed a problem, because I think that Sony is trying to save battery power. As it is, the battery is not too hot, and someone in this space suggested dialing it down to make it tolleratable.

Otherwise, I love the machine for it's lightweight and size, quality of screen, and options; will stick with it for a while.

I think your 665 is normal. Perhaps you could go to an electronics store and compare.

My Prism is so bright as to be harsh. No one makes PDA screens of this type anymore. It is not so good under bright ambient light, unlike the newer Sony and Palm screens.
