As I post this there are 65166 messages in the Garmin iQue forum, as you can see here (http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=5)
This are less than 500 posts to go to hit 65536, the 2^16 mark. What willl happen? Stay tuned. :)
EDIT: Boy, I really messed the first post up. This is what I meant to post: (Sorry if I offended anyone)
I'm not sure how to interpret the amount of posts to this forum versus the others:
1. We're real friendly people
2. We like to help people
3. Nice place to hang out and learn
4. We're really having a hard time with the Q
5. We're not very smart when it comes to this stuff so we need a lot of help
OR
6. the other forums are really lame
I vote for #s 1, 2, 3 AND 6 :D
What do you think?

At this time there are about 300 to go. I'll nail my colours to the mast and say everything will be ok.:)
...and if not, then Anders will just have failed to reach 4000!:D

Hooray for shorts! Who are the marketing geniuses that came up with that one?
Does this mean we have to move the club house to the PPC:M5 section now? Or will a iQue '05 start up?
Could be worse. They could have used signed shorts, in which case, game over several months ago.
Oh Jeez, does this mean I need to get the generator out and begin stocking up on bottled water and canned goods again?

a friend tells me that other forums just delete old posts. hopefully by then, that info is old, and either not needed, or needed enough to be documented elsewhere...
maybe.

Ok, I'll bite. What catastrophe is going to happen now that we've surpassed the 2^16 limit. Whatever that is?
Or is this yet another version of 'how to keep an idiot in suspense'? :p

Well, as it turns out, none:-) The only problem would have been if the code running this forum had used a 16 bit integer (also known as a short). The largest number that can be stored in 16 bits is 2^16 = 65536. If you add 1 to it you get 0 again and all kinds of interesting things can start to happen.

Gentlemen,
remember that Bokkie said everything will be ok. You can always trust a Bokkie. He is a haven of peace and a source of commonsense in a forum that is plagued with miscontent and silly posts.

We passed 65536 without meltdown and Anders is racing towards 4000 unimpeded by the arcane world of shorts and longs.
From hereon, we should be safe until we reach 2,147,483,647 (signed, for the purpose of).
