OS.IMG in E drive ?

Hi,

As some of you may remember, I have a 7 with a non-working CF card slot. So I use a CF card in a PC-card adaptor in the PC card slot. No problem. But now I have ordered a netBook upgrade module and, as I wait patiently for it to arrive, I realise that there may be a problem. Does anyone know if the netbook upgrade will work from a CF card in the wrong ie the PC card slot ? I can see this all going terribly wrong...

NetBook can load OS.img only from drive D:

But you are able to load the OS via serial cable from your netBook CD.

Thanks for that. But I am now even more lost (not having a "real" Netbook, just a 7 and a copy of OS.IMG). Do I put the OS.IMG file on a CD, stick it in my CD drive on my PC, plug in the serial cable and hope that the 7book will find the CD on my PC ? I am sorry if I sound dim but I have never heard of this technique and would really appreciate a step by step guide.

Goto Psion's download page for netBook (http://www.psion.com/mypsion/downloads.asp?product=netBook&category=All&os=&language=English&Submit=Search&Keywords=) and download the ROM loader application at the bottom of the page... :)

Well now, thanks to all you great people out there in the Psion community I am up and running. Not only did the 7-to-NetBook upgrade work perfectly via the serial port (using the hyperterminal technique I read about elsewhere in these forums) but I am writing this on my 7book via my new Buffalo wireless card.

I could not have done it without you. Thanks again.

Stuart! Glad you got your 7Book upgrade OS.img issue sorted... but, I'm just wondering whether, ideally, you'd like your CF tray working - certainly a lot nicer having two CF drives than just the one!... and, now you have a 7Book, if you had to reboot while away from home, per chance, you'd be rather stuck!

Not sure where you got your netBook personality module from but, if you're unaware, check out this thread for Psion repairs:

...you might find a repair to your CF tray is a lot more economic and hassle-free than you thought, especially if you are UK-based; certainly far cheaper than a £200-odd fixed price repair by Psion (in their French facility!).
