This should be widely available! Instead, I have been searching the net for days without any luck. They also removed it from official site, there is just 3.3 and that one is hidden! Why?!?

Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Palm III OS 3.5 - where can it be found? zdr 11-17-2002, 05:36 AM This should be widely available! Instead, I have been searching the net for days without any luck. They also removed it from official site, there is just 3.3 and that one is hidden! Why?!? JohnKes 11-18-2002, 06:09 PM Go to: http://www.palm.com/support/35upgrade/palmvx_upgrade.html It is hidden because they make no money off of it. zdr 11-19-2002, 02:43 AM ...and it clearly says that this is for Palm Vx only. Am I missing something? JohnKes 11-19-2002, 10:32 AM Page 6 of the OS Upgrade PDF says "The 3.5 Upgrade can be installed only on Palm OS handhelds equipped with Palm OS software version 3.0 or higher.": http://www.palm.com/support/35upgrade/downloads/OSUpgrade.pdf If it doesn't work, you can revert back: http://www.palm.com/support/35upgrade/revert-engl.html Have fun. Joe4x4 11-19-2002, 11:50 AM I was also wondering if this version can be used on a IIIx. I was about to do the download when I came upon the "Vx only" note, so I stoped. You'd think there would be more information about these things... what versions of Palm Pilots it works on, what impact it might have on applications, etc. Guess I'll stick with 3.3 for now... JohnKes 11-19-2002, 12:39 PM Since they are not making money on the 3.5 upgrade, I wouldn't expect much support. Apparently, some people use this upgrade on non-Vx, so it might work on a III or IIIx. If not, you can undo it. Starting with 3.3, you can IR HotSync. 3.5 allows you to use PiDirect, which would be great if you had a memory card (not in III series :( ). Joe4x4 11-19-2002, 01:46 PM ...which beacons the question: why bother with 3.5 on a IIIx. There are a few nice little additions, but maybe I should start shopping for a new palm pilot instead...something with color, and hi-res... JohnKes 11-19-2002, 01:58 PM Just a matter of money!! nowshining 03-21-2008, 07:42 PM http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/IIIxe_Support_Group/ ;) tpelle 03-26-2008, 03:34 PM I'm looking at my Palm IIIxe right now, and it's upgraded to v. 3.5.3. I did it right off of the Palm web site several months ago after I bought this IIIxe off of ebay, and I don't recall having any problems finding it on Palm's site at the time. I like the old III's because I use them as an e-reader, downloading books from Project Gutenberg and from eReader's web site. As a matter of fact, I bought a "spare" IIIxe from PDAParts.com and upgraded it to 3.5.3 too. nowshining 04-03-2008, 01:48 PM tpelle - 3.5 was either a buy for older handhelds at the time of release or you got them with newer handhelds at the time. the IIIxe and IIIc came with OS 3.5 however palms older than that came with either 3.3 (IIIx) and I think palm III came with 3.0 of the palm OS.. 3.5.3 the .x at the end means u patched it as 3.5 had soem bugs. First was 3.5.2.. Also tpelle there were a DRAM problem with many IIIxe's :) and a patch was released - a seperate patch to fix this problem. Also a test app. to see. see(for more info.): http://kb.palm.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,Kb=PalmSupportKB,CASE=961 also tpelle since PALM doesn't sell OS 4.1 no more for 3.5 and older PDA's such as the IIIxe, u can go to my yahoo group and find the ROM file to upgrade it FREE to OS 4.1. :) PDA Street
