Wondering if anyone has tried to use a Magellan GPS for m505 with the TT. I know that the TT is *supposed* to be compatible with all m505 accessories, but there have been reports of a few things that don't work. I don't want to pay 500 dollars for a new pda that I can't use my most used accessory with. It would be like going out and getting an iPaq *bleh*. If anyone has any experience with this, please let me know. Thanks

Hi there.
Just for the info, I called Magellan in San Dimas California and brought up the problem with one of their technical support people. I used to have a Palm M505 and sold it to get a TT. I do have the GPS Companion also.
When I put it on the TT, it says that it does not recognise the gps unit.
Technical support told me that alot of people where inquiring and that they where well aware of the problem... NavComp is not compatible with Palm OS5.
Let me reassure you all not to throw away your GPS unit as the tecnical support person reassured me that in the near future a new software will be written and this will allow us to use our GPS companions on our TT's.
Wise words of wisdom, be patient....
Best regards.

Thanks for the reply, I sent them an email asking about it. I won't upgrade till I either get sick of waiting for them, or I can afford that new bluetooth gps (nice that it's universal). No sence upgrading if I can't use what I mostly use my palm for!

I have been able to use my TT with Mapopolis, and the GPS works great. I also use the gps program "Compass" and it likewise works great. The only program that I use with my gps that won't work on the TT is Magellen NavCompanion. All others work great. So you can use those until Magellen gets an update for NavCompanion.

So what your trying to say, is that you can use the Magellen GPS for m505 on the TT and Mapopolis will see the GPS and it works fine? Without starting NavCompanion and getting the initial fix first? So your telling me that I don't even NEED the NavCompanion? Please be a little more specific. Thanks.

Yes:
You can use the Magellen GPS for the Palm m5xx series PDA without the NavCompanion software on your Palm Tungsten T. I tried NavCompanion on my TT but it wouldn't work. I then uninstalled NavCompanion, and downloaded "Compass" for GPS, and Mapopolis. Both work just fine with the Magellen GPS for Palm m5xx on my Tungsten TT. You do not need NavCompanion. It is not necessary for initiliaztion of the GPS on the TT, or any other m5xx series palm. Both Compass and Mapopolis do their own initilization. In fact, I have some other GPS programs that I downloaded for my m515 and the Magellen GPS and they all work fine also. NavCompanion is not necessary.

Thanks for the info. Guess I don't need to wait for thier update after all. Guess I'll start saving for my new TT!

Does the TT fit well in the Magellan Companion? Do the locking tabs still hold it in place? Is the slider still functional while the TT is locked into the Companion?
