I recently purchased my very first PDA, an HP rx3715 iPAQ and am thoroughly delighted with everything about it so far. However I am having a little trouble with regard to synching it exactly as I would like to do.

Basically I have noticed that it has created a folder on one of the network drives at my work which it has set up for synching files. I did not request that to be done so have no idea why it has been put there and I would like to change the location of that file but I cannot find anywhere in the settings where it allows me to do that. I want the folder on my desktop so that it is easily available to drag any files I require to be synched with my iPAQ. In the settings the folder location is greyed out so I cannot alter it at all.

Anyone able to help me with this?

Thanks

Peter

Activesync should sync files in your \My Documents\Synchronized Files\ folder. Do you have your My Documents folder set up on the network drive? Did you install Activesync on the network drive?

Thanks for the reply,

No I have My Documents folder in the usual place and there is no Synchronised Files folder there. ActiveSyc wasn't set up on the network drive either, it is in the usual Program Files\Microsoft Activesync folder of the C:\ drive

If you go into your desktop ActiveSync options, I suspect you have checked to enable sync with a server. If this is the case, uncheck that box. Whether or not AS will generate a new sync folder on your desktop PC is anyone's guess. You may need to copy the folder from the server to your desktop 'My Documents' folder.

If you wish more flexibility in where your synced files are kept on both your desktop and your device, install MobSync (freeware). This still uses your ActiveSync connection but allows you pretty unlimited assignment of syncing folders at both ends of the sync operation.

Thanks for the suggestion. I don;t remember asking it to synch with a server and that certainly isn't selected now but I'll try as you suggest. If no joy maybe a re-install of ActiveSync will rectify it. If that is no good I'll try Mobisync.. may give that a go anyway.

Thanks again.

Did not create a folder for me and my settings are to 'connect to this computer only' i.e. not a server.

With the device connected so that the partnership is active, go to Options and make sure that Files is checked in the list of items to sync.

Yep i've tried that but it still automatically creates the foder on the server and not anywhere else despite not having the server option selected in the options.

One last dumb question. Since you are on a network, what is the path set up for your 'My Documents' folder on the hosting desktop?

That's set up in:-

C:\Documents and Settings\My Name\My Documents

No different to how it is on my home PC.

I think my only option might be to uninstall ActiveSync and try again from scratch.
