I am coming off of a disasterous experience with my Treo 270, and I am looking for a replacement. After browsing through several forums and user reviews, I have come to the following conclusion:
The smartphone market is a nightmare. The manufacturers are all fighting tooth and nail to design the newest and coolest smartphone to sell for $600, and as a consequence the technology never has a chance to mature. The new models have so many new features and gizmos that by the time the major flaws are found in the previous generation the manufacturer simply EOL's the old model in favor of the new model with its own (undiscovered) flaws.
I am no stranger to technology and the pifalls that come with being an early adopter. However, I have discoved that these gadgets do not have "workarounds" and that reliability is vital for a phone. Therefore, I have greatly lowered my expectations for my new phone. While I would love to have a pda/phone/camera/mp3 player/web browser, such gadgets are too expensive and too unreliable (I might settle for too expensive OR too unreliable, but the combination is killer). I guess what I am really looking for is my old Palm Vx with a cell phone inside. That is it. I want a decent address program, a decent datebook, and a phone. And I want it to sync with my computer. Anything else is just bonus. I have a slight preference for sticking with the Palm OS and a slight preference for staying with T-Mobile, but I am willing to consider the alternatives. Does anyone have an idea for such a phone?
Thanks in advance.
